Price difference between US and Canadian XPS models

I am surprised that there hasn't been any discussion about the price differences yet (or maybe there has and I missed it), especially from Canadian forum members.  I just did a quick check and there seems to be at least a thousand dollar difference between the loaded xps 720 from the US to Canadian site.  Has anyone from Canada gone across the border to order a computer from Dell (not sure how that would work)? Would be interested in hearing any experiences out there. I would hope that in the next few months that the Canadian site prices come closer the the US prices.

The US dollar is very weak these days.

A buck used to be near $1.50 Canadian
Now a buck is less than a loonie!

Ive posted about this issue , not many responses,   and yes there is 1000$ or more in price for Canadians depending on your options,,, if u read the news paper people are taking action about this kind of nonsense , the Canadian Dollar was worth more than the US dollar on Friday Sept 28/07 and by all indications the Canadian will go up even more...  HB Blackbird PC's are the same price in Canada and the USA , i was told there would be a price adjustment for Canadians on Monday if the dollar trades higher in  Asia on Sunday {North }AmericaTime } for the Blackbird .  The  HP BlackBird Just might be the Best Deal for Canadians dollar wise

Toronto,

I have always noticed that proces go up much faster than they come down. However this currency rate shift is quite dramatic and I think should be raised both to Dell Canada and probably posed to Lionel over on the Direct2Dell blog to raise awareness of just how big an issue this is. To be honest I think some of it is due to Dell NOT seeing a drop in sales and I think some of that is because Canadians are somewhat used to the C$ being worth less than the U$ and paying more but that won't last forever and hopefull won't last for long. I think posting a competetive comparison of say the Blackbird Pricing vs. the XPS720 pricing might get someones attention for instance as I believe you mentioned that HP's pricing was more in line. Just my thoughts as I whole heartedly agree and sympathize with our northern brethren.

The BB Dedicated Edition is actually cheaper in CDN $ today:

$5,500.00 (USD)
$5,479.65 (CAD)

I see the XPS air cooled has dropped a couple of hundred bucks CDN today over yesterday.

For comparison with the BB, a similarly equipped 720 H2C box (or as close as possible) costs:

$5,934 (USD)
$6,396 (CDN)

Dell's options makes it impossible to configure matching US and CDN systems. For example, the BB has a QX6850 processor as does the US config priced above. But the CDN config does not offer a QX6850; the max is the QX6700. Similarly, the keyboard/mice options differ, as do the hard drives available. The US config has the same 160 raptor/500 other drive combo as the BB; the CDN price is for the default offering of drives (320 gig in raid 0, 7200 rpm) because there is no single 160 raptor offered. But even if exact options were available, the CDN price far exceeds the US price, and under the current fiscal environment is simply a scam on CDN buyers.

The 'base' price for the H2C before configuring is $5,718 CDN, compared to $5,089 US or $6,908 US, since they have two starting options compared to our one.

I've pinged HP to see when in October the custom versions of the BB can be ordered. Unless Dell really gets their act together with pricing, my future sale will go elsewhere.

R.

Due to the Canadian economy , and the price of Oil {Canadian Oil } the Canadian dollar will remain  above the USA dollar for some time..also if i had any extra dollars to invest i would be buying Gold... Gold is predicted to reach 1000$ an ounce some time in 2008. im saving to buy.. HA HA .... as for price differences Canadian Government is starting to take Notice , and will be making a statement soon. Policy statement. Cases are beginning to reach the court now . out of curiosity , i called HP Blackbird as i orderd a Blackbird a week ago , My Price for the  Blackbird has been adjusted to reflect the difference in Dollar Value and will be adjusted till the day the Blcakbird unit is shipped , but will not go higher , ill get the cheapest  dollar value  even if the canadian dollar was to drop .  How do they track prices im wondering on Blackbirds already ordered ? Seems like a wonderful  service for customers.

I'm really surprised this is taking Dell so long to resolve.
I can't imagine you are the only one to notice so I bet they are losing a lot of sales due to this issue.
It shows Dells lack of world presence compared to HP or IBM.
Despite the fact that Dell has 'web portals' for other countries there are always issues and delays that people outside of the US have to endure, which are worse than what we have here.

The Canadian dollar is predicted to go has hi as $1.10 to the US Dollar in the next few months..the Canadian dollar could go higher depending on royalties Charged for Canadian oil as royalties are expected to rise 20%  if royalities do not rise the Canadian dollar could exceed $1.10 US

Canadian prices have come down a little in the last few weeks. But still not enough.
XPS720 base US = $1699. Thats 1653 Canadian dollars. On Dell.ca base for same configuration is 1799. I know its only $150 but its $150 bucks for nothing.

What bugs me more though. Upgrade the base to a QX6700. In US add 900 (thats 875 CND)
On the Dell.ca site upgrading to the same chip = ......1180 !

upgrade HD to 1TB in US for $390. In Canada 550.
And on and on it goes. Result = NO SALE. And Dell will NOT get my business until they stop this foolishness and price gouging at the Canadian site.

I bought a Dell XPS 720 received it on sept 26 , the 720 had a hardware problem, i returned the 720 back to Dell for 2 reasons , i could not get a Replacement at same price as a USA model even though the Canadian dollar is higher  compared to the US dollar , Secondly Tech Support could not garentee a new sound card would fix the hardware problem , I bought a HP Blackbird , the top Of The Line Blackbird in Canadian Dollars is  cheaper than the Exact Same US Model   and as i compared the Blackbird to the 720. Blackbird is a more solid built Machine and much  faster  in my personal testing.  The Canadian Dollar is 103.34 as i write this in the money trading markets. Th Canadian dollar will reach 110.00 US by Christmas but settle somwhere around 105.00 US in future
