Studio XPS 435MT Upgrade. PSU/Video Card
Hello everyone! this is my first post on this forum. Anyhow i have a question in regards of upgrading my video card and PSU
Here is the plan, i have the standart settings of a Studio XPS 435MT which is Intel Core i7 CPU 920 2.67 Ghz.
Im planning to upgrade my system. I want to play skyrim or other games with high end quality. My monitor is 1920 x 1200.
What video card and PSU can you suggest? Im planning to start a stream on justin.tv..
My budget is $300..

Other users upgraded to the following on the Studio XPS 435MT;
AMD Radeon HD5770, Nvidia GeForce GTX460, Nvidia GeForce GTX470 (check newegg.com for prices)
650w power supply

Hey Chris even with the power supply upgrade, thats the best video card i can put on this system?

Hi. I put a HD6850 straight into mine without any changes. This draws 127W cf the 4850 wich draws 110W. Not a big increase and it has been running for 9 months now without any problems. Try to find a card that vents out the back instread of into the case. I used an MSI 6850 Hawke. It is slighjtly overclocked and has improveed cooling.

I have the same computer. This last week I installed an OCZ 600w mod extreme-pro power supply. Fit beautifully. I also installed an evga gtx 560 graphics card. I had to unplug the front firewire and sound cords to keep them from interfering with the cards fan. Might be possible to tie them down to the bottom of the case though. So far it works great and its not overheating. I also have a 2nd hd installed. It's easiest to remove the 2nd hd to install the gfx card. But after its installed the hd can be put back in.

Ohh. I can purchase anything on newegg right now, but its just the matter of which would fit best. i have the normal case that it came with and i just want to play skyrim lol!!

No - Just pulled out the original HD4850 and put the HD6840 in. No problems. A simple and cheap upgrade. You can mess arround with a new power supply, and while you are at it you might as well replace the fan with a better and less noisy model. But this is more work and more cost. Is it worth it for the gains? It might be fun but if you are going to start building a custom computer I would not use this model as the base.

Skyrim is not demanding. Do you have the the HD4850 card? This machine should play skyrim without any problems. I would try it before spending money on upgrades.

Im just upgrading . not making a custom computer. Especially now that Diablo 3 is coming out im in need of a new stuff.
