VT support on Dell Optiplex 755 with Intel E6750
I have an Optiplex 755 with version A12 BIOS and Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66Ghz cpu. I'm trying to run Citrix Xen 5.0 on here which installs on the bare metal fine- however when I create vm guests (x86 or x64) and try to start them up, I recieve the "HVM is required for this operation" message. This would indicate that my cpu didn't have the VT technology option enabled in the BIOS, however, I did set this to 'on'. So, as far as the BIOS is concerned, Virtualization is enabled for these logical cpu's.
I'm presuming that this is false however because I booted vt.iso and it verified that "VT is disabled in the feature control MSR" on both CPU 0 and 1.
Can anyone confirm whether this is false or not?

Got it working by simply setting BIOS back to defaults, rebooting, and re-enabling VT.
vt.iso now shows that "VT is enabled" on both CPU's and I'm able to start up the vm guests.

i tried same but it didin't work with e6550
but specs says: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=30783&code=Intel%C2%AE+Core%E2%84%A22+Duo+Processor+E6550
that it works ....

any luck?
I too am running into the same problem. Optiplex 755 with E6550. Updated to latest BIOS (A15), reset to factory defaults (via BIOS menu), booted up, restarted, set all Virtualization options to ON and yet, VMWare Workstation (5.5.8) still complains that my CPU is VT-Capable but not enabled.
Any solutions?

Yeah, I played around with those too and it ended up working. Though I had not turned on the VT for direct I/O (only VT for the CPU). Now it works...
