xps 720 graphics card upgrade ,

hi i have a XPS 720H2C oc. to 3.47 (fatory oc), 2 8800gt's in SLI, and a 30" dell monitor

Now, I want to upgrade the graphics cards to 2 GTX 280's in SLI

one GTX 280 would be near enough the same as 2 8800GTX in SLI.

I use the rig for gaming only what do you think i should do ? does this pci 1.1 / pci 2.0 thing affect the possiblty of doing this ?

thanks very much for any help !!!

i think the gtx may need a pci express 2 port as it is faster, so if you plan on getting one, make sure you have a pci-e 2.0 port(or 2 if you want 2 in SLI,

Remember the 295GTX is out(faster, so if you want the best thats the way to go)

Couple of things there is a post about a capacitor that might be in the way at the end of the PCIe slot with the 280's so you might want to look at that.

Second you will need to have the 1kw power supply in order to get the required amount of connectors. You will still need two 6 to 8 pin adapter but with the 1 kw supply you get 4 6 pin power connectors.

Other than that the cards should run.

yea, have 1 kw supply, dont see any thing that can be in the way of the card

my biggest fear was  " all that pci1.1 /2.0 stuff"

once again  thank you very much

the cards are PCIe 2.0 as are most, the board is 2.0 and even if not the cards would still work just at the lower specs.
