Specialist that wants to move up to EMCIE and/or EMCTA

Hi everyone.  I'm been researching & researching but have yet to find a straight, clear answer to my EMC certification question.  I hope someone here will be kind enough to offer a little insight for me.

I have held me EMCSA - Clariion certification for three years now.  I'm planning my next EMC certification and I'm considering the EMCIE or EMCTA certifications as they would help to adequately demonstrate my SAN knowledge to future employers.  As I work for a large EMC customer I believe I am excluded from seeking these tests or the certification. Is that correct?  If so, does VUE prevent the test or does EMC simply refuse to issue the certification even if I were to pass the test?

So I find myself in a bit of a pickle. It sounds like I need to work for either EMC or a Velocity partner in order to earn the certification. However I've already run into partner organizations that are requiring EMCIE before hire.  How do I break in with this catch-22 going on?  Should I seek out local Velocity partners and see if any are generous enough to let me earn my certification through their organization?  Is there a means I may be unaware of that I could earn one of these certs and therefor get the attention of these hiring organizations?

Thanks in advance for the help!  Frustrating to be on the outside looking in....

Hi Chad,

I completely understand how you feel, but maybe this clarification will help.  You are able to take any of our EMC Proven Professional exams, regardless of your role.  When you pass, you will earn the appropriate Specialist credential (ie, EMCIE, EMCTA).

Hope that offers some encouragement!

Please let us know which certification ypu plan to pursue.

Hi Chad -

Michelle is correct anyone can take any EMC Proven Professional exam and they will earn the credential however ....

In some cases (such as TA tracks) you need to work for a partner or EMC if you want to get the bundled training associated with the exam.

Does that help/answer your question?

Thank you all for the help and clarification.  I feel better knowing that I have a chance to earn these credentials and to be judged on my knowledge & abilities rather than on who my current employer is.

First I think I'll pursue the EMCIE Speacialist - Clariion cert. Once earned I'll reevaluate from there. I need to learn more about the IE & TA tracks now that I know I have a chance to earn them.  As its been about three years since earning my EMCSA I'll be starting of with the base exam 20-001. Just ordered the ISM book from Amazon and am looking forward with studying for and taking this exam before moving on to E20-340.

Thank you all for your assistance and putting me at a little more ease.

Chad
