Latitude E7470 Wireless Radio Control

I am having issues with Latitude E7470 and E7270 not disabling WIFI when docked or when a hard wired network connection is present.

I have ensured that the Power Management\Wireless Radio Control\ Control WLAN and Control WWAN radio options are Enabled and Selected in the BIOS of each respective model and no luck.

I even tried to upgrade to BIOS version 1.4.2 and no luck - is anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions on how to fix or address are greatly appreciated.

The following models require Dell WLAN HotKey Driver for Windows 7:

Dell 7510
E7470
E7270
E5470

After install you still have to manually toggle the wireless off then on once via FN+PrtSc keys to "kickstart" the driver.

Do NOT install version 1.0.0.5 as it is NOT digitally signed and will bluescreen your system

Stick with 1.0.0.4 until it is fixed:

I posted here regarding 1.0.0.5 but so far no response:

Dell WLAN Hotkey Driver for E7x70, E5x70, 7510 models.

Windows 7 and Windows 10

Version 1.0.0.4

1.0.0.5 has been posted on the Dell website but DO NOT install that version.  The driver is not digitally signed and it WILL bluescreen your machine.

I double checked the driver site again today and it looks like 1.0.0.5 is now digitally signed and working properly.

(Although Dell did not update the version or date of when the driver was updated)

This is the good version of the WLAN hotkey driver:

Hi DRMADDOG,

So the functionality (which existed on E5450) where both WLAN and WWAN were "disabled automatically when an ethernet cabel is present" no longer exists?

Would really like to know if this can be automatic function to disable when docked, as per OP.

The scenario is that you have wireless networks and wired networks that are different, and you don't want to bridge networks when docked. You want wireless to turn off, disconnect from that network entirely as soon as the docked network connection is established.

This is still not fixed even with the release of the 1.0.0.6 A02 driver. My 7470 will not connect on Wired OR Wireless now.

I've tried to install these on my new 7270 and I can't install it because get an error saying that "this installation package doesn't support this processor type"

Even if I try the newer one 1.0.0.6 I get the same error!

Dell, what I'm I suppose to do?

I should say that we have win 7 32 bit.

Computer processor is Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6300U CPU @ 2.40GHz

Fredrik

I was getting the same error with 1.0.0.6, but I had Win x64.

I was finally able to get 1.0.0.6 installed.  I installed 1.0.0.5 first and it installed fine, but didn't disable the WLAN radio.  Next I extracted the 1.0.0.6 to a folder and ran HKDellDrSetup64.msi from the folder.  It installed fine and disable the radio immediately.

Hi!

God that it works for x64 computers.

But we have mostly x86 and 32 bits win7 applications so this doesn't work for those computers and Dell doesn't seem to have a fix for them.

Dells sys that the driver this just support: Windows Operating Systems: Windows 7 64-bit.

This is now solved.

We didn't get the right hotfix. They had one for x86 computers and windows 7 32 bits OS.

After installing that one I've got it to work.

Thanks for your help!

nstall the Dell WLAN HotKey Driver.

You can download and install the Dell WLAN HotKey Driver from the Dell Support Website, where you can select your system, then Drivers and Downloads, Network folder to locate and download the WLAN Radio Switch Driver.

Use the steps below to enable WLAN Control in BIOS if not already done:

  1. Tap the F2 key while powering up the system
  2. Once in the BIOS please click on Power Management
  3. You will then click on Wireless Radio Control
  4. Once here please ensure that the Control WLAN radio option is selected
  5. Please click Apply and then Exit

Once complete, the system should automatically switch from Wireless to Ethernet when docked.

I've got it from Dell.

For us it has worked.

Perhaps you folks can help a novice on this topic.  I'm running fine--almost.  Plug in the cable, wireless turns off and cable connects.  Unplug the cable, and wireless connects.  Repeat:  all good.  The problem I have remaining is start up.  Even if the cable is connected, the system boots to a wireless connection.  Shouldn't it start to wired if the cable is connected?  (Sort of a pain to have to manually turn off the wireless every time I start with a cable connected).

Associated question:  How can I tell what version of Dell WLAN HotKey driver I have?
