What is the correct way to set Boot-from-SAN configuration?

Dear All,

What is the correct way to set Boot-from-SAN configuration?

With following HBA documents, Windows servers boot from CX sucessfully and smoothly.

Following is my procedures.

1. Setting HBA parameters, such as BIOS enable, IO timeout...

2. Setting CX Boot-LUN owner to SPA

3. Select Boot-LUN (spa path) in HBA configuration

4. Traspass CX Boot-LUN owner to SPB

5. Select secondary Boot-LUN (spb path) in HBA configuration.

Do I need to trespass LUN owner to generate secondary boot lun list?

Thanks for any input.

Hi

Setting up Boot from San Options can vary Based on the OS installed and the HBA card connected to it. Hence you need to refer to Host connectivity guides for each OS,  so which one to read first depends on your environment.

HBA manuals usually have a chapter explaining how to configure the HBA  to boot from SAN .. you have to tell the BIOS what WWN and what  LUN to boot from.

Regarding trespasing LUN Please refer to this related thread.
