add new Equallogic system

Hello,

We are using 2 PS4000 systems in a group.  Now we wanted to add additional capacity to this group and it seems that we need to add a PS6100 model because the PS4xxx series can only have 2 systems per group.

What is the best way to expand our Equallogic system ? Can the PS4xxx systems be added to a PS6100 group without dataloss or resetting ?  Or do we first need to transfer all data to the PS6100 system, and reset and add the PS4xxx afterwards ?

any good documentation about this ?

Thanks in advance

Yes, you can add the additional PS6100, as that will eliminate the PS4000 configuration limits.

You can add it as its own pool, then move volumes to the new member, or put it in the same pool as the PS4000's.

First upgrade the PS4000's to at least 5.2.5 before adding in the PS6100.   Then upgrade to PS6100 to make it.  I suspect it won't come with 5.2.5 installed.

If you let me know what size / speed / RAID type of the PS4000's and what size/rpm drives in the PS6100 I can offer you some general guidelines.

The Admin guide has info on how to manage members and pools, there's also a storage tiering tech report

Tom,

You can only have 2 PS4000 series systems per group.  You can add other PS series arrays to the group that you have the PS4000's in.  So if you need more capacity in this group and are looking to expand it you will need to add another model other than the PS4000 series.  The PS6100 would be a great addition.
