I am looking forward to get EMC Clariion Solution certified and want to do Clariion Foundations course for Associate Level.

Is there any book or books you can recommend for Clariion Foundation course.

I dont want to do e-learning or ILT course but any other offline training method especially book.

Hey,

well you could look at the book "Information Storage and Management: Storing, Managing, and Protecting Digital Data", that is not specifically written for the CLARiiON certification but might give you a good overview. Also, you can check out the "knowledge sharing portal" to find documents with tips and tricks and more info. Powerlink and the documentation inside it is always a good reference, and you can find some example test questions here. Otherwise I haven't found that many books describing the CX. But I hope this helps you a little.

Hello, I'm just wondering why you prefer not to complete a course to prepare you for the exam?

I prefer offline training than online.

A book will best as I can always read when I am travelling to and from work.

Hello again,

What you could consider is getting your Associate level certification in Information Storage and Management (ISM) using the book as your preparation (Sebastian provided the link).

From there, you can order a video-value pak for CLARiiON. The package is a collection of self learning modules and a Video-ILT. All of our self learning modules and VILT (a near-classroom experience) allow the script to be downloaded and printed, which will help you to prepare.

Check out the link in Sebastians' message, and see if the ISM book intrigues you.....it's brand new and full of information!

Hey Michelle,

just a quick question from my side. Is the Video-ILT delivered on a DVD? And is the V-ILT also available in Europe, or is it something exclusive to the US?

I'm thinking of purchasing the book at the EMC World, I read we can purchase them there?

Hi Bas,

Video ILTs are available globally.  They are delivered on a disk, and are an inexpensive alternative to traveling.  Each VILT has a downloadable student guide, and provides you with the opportunity to hear the full lecture, in-class students' questions and answers, and essentially have the same experience.  The nice part is that you can replay portions that you may not understand the first time, or later use the VILT as a reference.

Many of our EMC Proven Professional courses offer the option of in-class, eLearning, or VILT.  Just select the track and course you're interested in and you can check it out.

I believe there will be Information Storage and Management books available at EMC World, but you don't have to wait until then.  It's available from  The book is available for purchase from major online book retailers Amazon (www.amazon.com)  and Wiley (www.wiley.com).  You have to get the book, I have one sitting on my desk and love it!

Hello and thanks for the questions on VILT.

Michelle has given you a pretty complete answer. VILTS are currently on CD sets, not DVD. However, we are moving in the direction of providing the entire modules on a DVD. So over time in 2009 we will be making the transition to DVD for most if not all of the VILTs that we have, and for future VILTS. Also, the VILT are delivered in English. Hope this helps answer the question.

Information Storage and Management will be available at EMC World at at 25% discount.  In addition, there will be opportunities to "Meet the Experts" who contributed to the book at several events at EMC World.  Details are in the works - but will include a live "Tweet up" from the ECN Booth, Meet the Experts at the Powerlink booth.  The ISM Experts also will be prsent at the Proven Center and at Proven Professional activities.

Don't forget the book can help you prepare to take the Associate level certification exam (50% for exams taken during EMC World).

Hello -

I am investigating how to determine if a specific VILT has been updated from CD format to DVD format.

In the meantime, would you let me know if you are an EMC employee, partner or customer?  This way I can direct you to the correct location for CLARiiON course materials.

Kind regards,
Debi

Hello -

Thank you for this additional information.  As you are just beginning your path into storage technology, we recommend starting with the EMC Information Storage Associate (EMCISA) certification.  The EMCISA is the pre-requisite for most Specialist and Expert credentials.  The course associated with this certification is titled “Information Storage and Management”.

You can also take advantage of the EMC Proven Professional Starter Kit.  This kit includes a Video Instructor-Led Training (VILT) DVD for the ISM course, a coupon to get a discount on the ISM book, a test voucher so that you can take the ISM test at no cost, and an EMC Proven Guide.  A great way to begin your journey!

Once you've achieved this Associate certification you can move into the Specialist tracks, including CLARiiON.

Please note that you will need to create a Powerlink account in order to purchase the starter kit.  This is pretty straight forward process but does take a few hours for new Powerlink accounts to be activated.

Please let us know if you have further questions.  Best of luck to you!

Kind regards,
Debi

Hi Dhananjay -

The ISM book webpage contains a "ISM Book Resources" tab at the top of the page. Clicking on this link will display a short form to complete.  Once this form is submitted, you will then be directed to a page with case studies, simulators, etc organized by section.

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,

Debi
