1600mhz ram support for intel i5 2450m processor

I have bought an inspiron 17r laptop in march. The system specs are:

intel i5 2450m 2.5ghz turbo upto 3.1ghz

6gb dual channel (1*4gb + 1*2gb) ddr3-1333mhz

integrated graphics hd 3000

My friend bought an apple macbook pro at the same time with same config but his ram is of 4gb ddr3-1600mhz. After checking out the processor specs in intel site they say that it supports only 1066/1333mhz ram. Then how could that 1600mhz ram be supported by i5 2450m processor.

I have also seen that the above processor support upto 16 gb of memory. Is that in 1333mhz memory or 1066mhz memory. They have mentioned it that it depends on the memory.
