17R N7110 memory upgrade

Looking to order some new memory tonight or tomorrow and wondering if anyone has had any problems with the memory I am looking at.

G.Skills

F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ
F3-10600CL9D-8GBSQ

My understanding is that they are almost exactly the same product but G.Skills support forums said that the chips are a little different on them.

thanks

WWW.Crucial.com shows 10600 to be compatible with the N7110. I like to buy from Crucial for they guarantee their memory to work in your computer. That being said, I do have Gskilled memory in an Inspiron 5100 I own and it served me well when I was using that computer.

Thanks for the reply. I already ordered the F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ  We will see what happens when it gets here next week.

After the install I will boot from a cd and run memtest a couple times to make sure all is well.

Let us know how it turns out. I would like to know if it is compatible. I bought my daughter an N7110 last Dec. and will be upgrading to 8GB soon.

yeah.   they have it on sale for $39.99.  They had the F3-10600CL9D-8GBSQ on sale for $34.99 but when I looked a little while ago it wasn't on sale but the F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ still was.

Where did you order from? Newegg?

Will do.

I was orignally looking to get a matching 4gb samsung like what is in the system now but all of them on ebay were about $30 for the same part number. I figured for $43 shipped to my door I would rather have a true matched pair and lifetime warranty. oh and they came with a free 4gb sd mem card.

Just wondered if you had tried removing the memory module cover on your laptop yet?  Mine doesn't seem to want to come off.  I have the same model as you.  Mine supposedly came with a single 4 gb DIMM, and I wanted to add a 2 gb DIMM from my son's XPS 15.

the cover is a pain to get off. The screw was completely back out and it still didn't want to come off. It almost feels like you are going to break it trying to get it off there. You might have to use something to get under the edge and gently pry it up.

Thanks for your reply, SJDaytona.  I pried it off with a knife blade and small screwdriver, installed the new DIMM, and all is well.  I was going to buy another 4 gb DIMM, but thought why not just add one of the old XPS 2gb sticks?  And 6 gb is better than 4.  Saved the $40 Dell wanted to add the additional 2 gigs.

Newegg took their time getting the memory to me. One full week to process and move the order less than 350 miles.

installed the memory, held down the FN key while powering on and ran the full memory tests, everything came out fine. booted up from a cd and ran memtest x86 and everything passed.

So far system is working great with the F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ.

I went to order from Crucial and they were out of stock. Figured I could get the G.Skill for about $15 cheaper so I ordered it. I ordered the 10600. Running good so far.
