A/C adapter PINS
hey everybody!
Quick question here, for those with an inspiron 4150, or those with compatible A/C adapters.
I no longer get A?C from my power adapter. Now, this being said, the laptop works fine off the battery (which has long been dead). I went to test the tip of my power adapter with a multimeter, and long behold, one of the metal clips (that physically touches the A/C pins on the laptop once the adapter is plugged in) seems to be missing out of the tip of the A/C adapter.
No having an other A/C adapter to test out my findings, I need to know if there is indeed a visible metal clip inside all three holes on the tip of my A/C adapter
Thanks in advance!

Thank you for using Dell's Community Forum.
If I understand your question correctly, yes, there should be three prongs (attached to the system) that mate or plug-into the female end of the AC adaptor.

I could be wrong, but I think ravencraft is actually asking how many metal leads there are in the female end of the AC adapter cable (the end that connects to the laptop), not how many pins there are on the laptop itself.
Last night I discovered my Inspiron 4000 battery was not being recharged even though
1) the AC adapter is plugged in to the wall and receiving power (the green light on it is on)
2) the other end of the AC adapter is plugged into the machine
The icon that indicates the laptop is running on battery does not change to the icon for AC power after I plug in the AC cable, and the green LED on the laptop that indicates AC power does not light up. This leads me to believe there is something wrong with the AC adapter cable. After looking at it carefully, I noticed there is no metal lead on the right bottom hole of the AC adapter cable.
So do ravencraft and I have broken AC adapter cables?
Thanks,
-Andrew

I check my A/C adapter. There is no visible metal clip inside the right hole.
And this AC adpater works fine on other machine.
Unfortunately. I think it is the motherboard's problem.
After browsing through this borad, some ppl came across the same problem.
I am out of my warranty. It is my first laptop, and I should not save money by only pursuing
1 year warantty :(
If you want dell to replace the mothermoard for u, it costs more than 600$ :(
I really think, at least, it is a minor design flaw
