Hi!.. your post got a little scrambled, but I think I got what you were trying to say. You have an onboard graphics card and you plug in an external and the onboard dissapears right? If that is the case then unfortunetly that is normal. When you install the new graphics card, the BIOS detects this and shuts down the onboard chip as to not have any conflicts with the new card. Normally people who want to have multiple monitors (at least 2), will buy a card with two DVI or VGA outputs on the card itself.
I will let you know that I do not believe there is a work around for this (i'm not 100 percent sure) but maybe someone else has had some luck?

Still a little scrambled but thats o.k. :-) Honestly I dont think its possible to use the onboard graphics AND the add in card.. I think its to prevent hardware resource conflicts.. at least it was in the old days.. hopefully someone will come on with a solution :-)

beamermt25,
Do you have mismatched RAM?
With the Dell Studio 1737, we figured out it had to do with mismatched RAM. They tried a bios update but I kept getting Event ID 13 error messages every minute or two.

majayako,
I just read in another thread, that Intel has new drivers. I just installed them but did not get a chance to try them.
I agree with the others, Dell should offer us a 2gb RAM to match the RAm with the other one to solve this issue.

Umm.. no I dont think I do.. the original poster was talking about how they wanted to use onboard graphics as well as an add in card for 4+ monitor support and I didn't think he/she could because the bios shuts down the onboard chip when it detects an add in card.. I dont remember reading about an ID 13 error? The poster's post comes in all scrambled so maybe that has something to do with it? :-)
