Hi - hope u got the drivers (from Dell downloads?)

I have a similar laptop spec and a similar problem which maybe u or others can help with.  Suddenly it does not let me change resolution, only working on 1024x768.  Any attempt to change brings a blank screen and I have to power off/on several times to get it running again.  I dont know if the driver needs replacing or if its hardware - is the ATI on the system board or a card?

Well, I am the Original Poster, I made a new account, because I couldn't get into my last one, But most likely, it's a driver issue, and It's most likely an onboard, older laptops did not have PCI card slots.

Do this:
If using Windows XP
Click Start
Click RUN
Type "dxdiag" without quotes
then give me all the info on the first page, and the Display tab, then I will get back to you.
But in the mean time, I can't do anything else until I have your PC specs.

Well, one big problem, is that it doesn't give the name of your PC, and that's crucial information because, XP installed the wrong drivers for my laptop.
Little did I know, my laptop actually had a ATi Rage Mobillity M1.
But it says your PC has Windows 2000 and the drivers where last updated in 1999.
The last time they updated the old GPUs was in 2001.

If you can get me the name of your PC, I can find your drivers.
I'm guessing those are the right drivers, but there terribly outdated.

Hi, its an old CPX

March 21st, 2010 15:00

That's the same exact laptop I have.
Here you go, this should work.
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/format.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&deviceid=344&libid=6&releaseid=R35485&vercnt=1&formatcnt=0&SystemID=LAT_PNT_P03_CPX_H&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=-1&dateid=-1&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&impid=-1&checkFormat=true

Tell me how it goes after you install it, also, your max Screen resolution should go up to 1024x768.

Because those are horrible default drivers that all Windows OS, Set as.
Not to mention this laptop is from 2000, and just a secret between us, this laptop is pretty good for playing any games from 96-2000.
I still play Half Life, and Counter Strike on it, and they run perfectly.

The GPU is 3D accelerated also.

Also with AGP Texture acceleration.

Well, this is where I have to apologise for being thick!  The link takes me to Dell driver download and offers me

XPM1A00.EXE

which gives me download manager. Download manager doesnt open with double click, instead asking for a programme to open it?

Release Date: 10/23/2001

I'm terribly sorry, I gave you the wrong link, I was extremely tired, so I didn't pay attention.
Here is the actual link.

The link I gave to you was for Windows XP.
This one is for Windows 2000.

I think I'm at the point of giving up!!!

All I get is Delldownloaddrivermanager (10K application file) which doesnt run - it apparently needs .Net which I can only install if I have XP - doesnt accept W2000!!

Cannot download direct via Firefox

March 22nd, 2010 13:00

Try downloading directly through Internet Explorer, I don't see why you can't directly download it.
Because the Dell Download Manager isn't for Windows 2000, It's built for XP, Vista, and Windows 7.

Strange, Firefox would not let me download direct, so I reinstalled Internet Explorer (and updated it to 6 SP1) and finally was able to download, save to desktop, and unzip and install.

Everything seems to be OK now, I've changed resolution, run Anno 1603 ok et.

You are a star - many thanks again!!
