Alienware m17x r3 poor performance without battery
Hi Everyone,
I've had some problems with my charger not being detected to the point that the battery is at 0%. I spoke to a rep who told me its most likely the charger so I have ordered one, unfortunately it will take a few weeks for the order to even be placed before they ship it.
Anyways, my issue is that the laptops performance in games has gone to unbearable. I used to only game when it was plugged in "obviously on battery mode the performance drops immensely" My question is, is there anyway to get top performance without have the battery charged, or even in the computer?
Batterys obviously have a lifespan of 1-3 years max, so within the life of the computer I will have to replace it a few times, but years from now they may not even make this battery model, I want to know I get the same performance without having a battery in. If not, theres really no point putting money into a computer that will work well until the battery dies.
So someone please, do I need the battery to play games with top performance, or is there a way to get it with just the charger?
Thanks,

I don't have an M17x R3 to test this with, but if it works the same way my M18x does you can pull the battery and set it to the "High performance" power profile and it will game in full performance mode. The battery should not need to be present. Have you tried that already?
I basically use the battery for nothing but a UPS.

BJFox, Thanks for the reply.
I've never actually pulled the battery and tried with just the charger in. I'll give that a shot when I get home, honestly I don't feel to safe taking my $3000 laptop around so I usually just have it plugged in at home, if that works than I'll have absolutely no problem, I assume it would work the same as the m18x.
My only concern is the warning I keep getting when I first boot the computer about it "not being the proper charger" even though it is.
Either way I will try this when I get home and let you know.
Thanks again.

I just got home to try out a couple games with the battery completely out.
Unfortunately the performance is poor, it's absolutely terrible. Frame rates are just terrible, I've set it too high performance. Any other suggestions of what I may be able to try?
As I said, I have ordered another charger (ridiculously expensive) but DELL is waiting up to 2 weeks before even processing the order...
