Hi balpreet.harvi,

This could be an issue with the LCD panel. To isolate the issue follow below mentioned steps.

  • Check if the dark pixel appears in BIOS screen (Restart the computer and tap F2 on Dell logo).
  • Also restart the computer and check the display in Safe mode (Restart the computer and press F8 on Dell logo and select Safe mode).

Refer bellow link which has information about Dell Pixel policy:

One dead pixel won't qualify for a screen replacement (see the link in the earlier reply). However, you have the right to return a system for any reason within 21 days of shipment -- though there usually is a restocking charge, you may be able to negotiate that if you choose to order a replacement system.

I have a black spot on my screen. My Inspiron 15R 5520 is about a year old. The spot is clearly visible but when I take a screen shot, it doesn't appear.

Can anyone please give me an idea about what is happening and what to do about it?

Last check would be to attach an external monitor -- the defect likely won't show.  If that's the case, the panel needs to be replaced.

Hello FancyBamboo,

In addition to what Ejn63 has said, I would request you to try the following steps:

  1. Run the LCD Built-In Self-Test (BIST).
  2. Check if you see the black spot in the BIOS Setup. To enter the computer BIOS Setup, restart the computer and at the Dell logo screen, tap until the message Entering Setup appears.

If you observe the same issue on the BIOS setup screen or during the LCD Bist, it is a hardware issue. For more details please check the article on Resolving Laptop LCD Lines, Fuzzy, Color, or Blurry Issues.

Hope this helps!

I ran the BIST test. All seems fine.

The spot is still there when I do f2 and f8 and put the computer in safe mode.

Simultaneously I have failures in the Dell tests, starting with the Targeted Read test, which turns off all the following tests until the next subgroup.

When I do the Stress Tests, all tests pass.

No problems show up in any of the other programs I run daily: Kaspersky, SuperAntiSpyware, and System Mechanic.

Can you please help me further? And thanks....

My only error now is the Targeted Read test. All the others run and pass. (SuperAntispyware just found something in a complete scan that seems to have improved everything but the Targeted Read.

Just FYI

I kept reading online about isolating the problem and hopefully fixing it, so I ran the PSA diagnostics. I got the error. I posted the following in a separate post.

I got ERROR S/N WXDIC1209155 after rebooting & pressing F12 and running Diagnostics.

History:

Recently (past week) a black spot appears on my screen but isn't seen after doing PrintScreen.

I get Target Read failure in the default tests.

Can anyone advise me what to do to fix it????

Thanks in advance

And to those who have helped me till now, thank you sincerely.

Well, Allan, Appu S has advised me that I need a new hard drive, and we're working on a warranty issue. In the meantime, I still have that black spot on my screen, which is still there with F2 and F8. If I need a new screen and a new hard drive after 11 months, that's not too good. What is your opinion about my black spot on the screen?

And thanks so much for your help....

Hello FancyBamboo,

Sorry about the situation. Electronic devices are prone to failures hence we have warrantied the system in order to support it. as the black spot is visible in BIOS setup and in safe mode, it indicates that the LCD needs to be replaced. Since Appu S is assisting in replacing the hard drive, please let him know about the LCD issue so that he can replace the LCD along with the hard drive.

Alan, you've been terrific. It's quite amazing how this happened and so suddenly. It's a good reason to buy warranties, she says, not having considered it seriously before.

I will tell Appu S about this, too. I hope the warranty issue can be straightened out.

Thanks again.
