Remove the battery. Will it boot on AC only? If so, the battery is faulty.

If not, unplug the power adapter from the system. Is the LED on it, ON? If not, the adapter is faulty.

If it is, the system board in the notebook is faulty.

The cord is probably broken near the tip of the AC connector.

 VERY common problem.

Unfortunately, you need a whole new $60 AC adapter. :smileysad:

I have the same problem... :smileysad:

I bought my Dell laptop (it's an Inspiron E1505) at the end of May this year, and it has been nothing but problems! First the wireless internet problems and now this?!? Any way that Dell will pay for a new AC power cord (I have a 4-year warranty)? My sister and Dad have a similiar kind of laptop, and I tried using their power cords on my computer, and they work.

Should I call Dell Support about this problem or just forget about it and just buy a new cord myself? Last time, I called I was on the phone for 6 hours (over a two-day span)... for them to tell me my only solution was to restart my computer back-up as it would be if I just opened it.

Is there anything else I could do beside buy a new cord? As of now, with a little jiggling and wiggling and about 5 minutes, I can get the power working, but with one slight movement of the laptop, the power cord stops working... it's kind of depressing... Any advice?

Actually, I take back my last Reply. It IS possible to repair the broken wires at the end near the tip of the cord! I did so yesterday on a AC Adapter cord! Simply take an Exacto knife and slice through the tip itself (NOT your finger!) and expose the terminals wire the wires attach. You "should" see where the wire (most likely the ground wire) has broken apart. Cut the wires to the correct length needed to reattach to the terminals on the tip. Now get your soldering gun and solder and go to work soldering the wires back to the tip. Now take black tape and cover the exposed wires. Be certain the ground and (+) wires are NOT touching anywhere! You're back in business!

Besides repairing the tip like I did, you could buy a new Universal AC Adapter for $18 off EBay.
