Batteries Last for 300 to 500 cycles or 1 year.

This is why you never see a battery warranty longer than 1 year ever from anyone.

Batteries do not last longer if they are not charged.  If you use a battery once and then

leave on the shelf for a year you can have that issue where its dead.

If you don't need the mobility, you can remove the failing battery and leave it out. Always use the adapter alone and shutdown properly--just as you would shutdown a desktop. One drawback is bios updates will not install without a working battery. Since replacement batteries cost over $100 it's better to save the money for a replacement computer. BTW, today's lithium batteries should not be drained to empty or near empty.
