Attach an external monitor -- if the fault doesn't show, it's the display panel that's bad - you'll need a new one.
If it does show externally, you have a bad video chip or card - replace the mainboard or video card, whichever your system has.

where do you attach an external monitor on a laptop?

Hi shugedge,
You will find VGA port or DP port on the laptop. Wherein you can use it connect an external display. Please reply us with the system model so that I can check and advise you.
