Black screen after installing graphics driver under windows 8.1

Hi,

I have a Dell inspiron 15 N5010 Laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics card.

I see there is only drivers for windows vista and 7 in dell download site.

When I install windows 7 video driver under windows 8.1 (64 bit) my screen goes to the black (with and without compatibility mode too).. Also same issue with the latest driver from ATI website (amd-catalyst-15.8beta-64bit-win10-win8.1-win7-aug23).

So my question is, is there any solution to make work my graphics card under windows 8 or windows 10?

Please help,

Thank You in advance

Hi,

We always suggest the customers its best to have all the drivers updated before updating to  windows 10.

Now I would suggest you to do a clean installation of  windows 8.1 drivers and then if the video drivers aren't installed yet then you can install windows 7 drivers in compatibility mode.

Click on this link which will provide you all the instructions to install drivers in compatibility mode.

If there are any other queries do reply to this post with the service tag of the system sent via private message.

Hoping this helps,

Regards,

Hi,

First of all thank you for Your answer.
I have reinstalled my system (windows 8.1) and tried installing the old VGA driver from Dell web site in "compatibility mode" as you are mentioned, but the screen goes to the black during installation.

After that I have reinstalled my system again and tried installing the latest driver from ATI website (amd-catalyst-15.8beta-64bit-win10-win8.1-win7-aug23). The installation is successfully completed without black screen but with a warning message. The display driver, Audio HDMI driver.. failed to install.

I have sent my service tag in mail.
Any solution?

Thank You,

Hi Oscar and Jennifer,

I have similar problems, but with Windows 10. Is it fixed? If so, how? I do not need to use the full functionality of the video card, but I want something more than just be able to boot in safe mode.

Thanks,

Rolf

Hi,

I had an issue as the one you assisted with here.

Dell Inspiron N5010,

After 4 years of working perfectly fine, I now (in the past few months) get the black screen both in windows 7 and Linux after their initial splash screens.

This happens only when I have ATI Radeon 5650 drivers installed and enabled.

I have formatted a bajillion times, installed and unistalled the GPU drivers both the custom made for my pc from Dell but also from AMD.

I have ran video stress tests that show nothing and also had a technician look into it (checked both GPU and hard drive).

Nothing.

Is there anything I can do?

I am thinking of having the BGA connections repaired (by reballing).

Any thoughts?
