Blank screen, No boot, No logo
Please help, I am at the end of my rope here with this thing. A few days ago, my Dell Inspiron 1545 began to screw up bad. The problem is this, I press the power button to turn it on, the screen remains black but the backlight is on as you can tell the screen lights up, there is a grey distorted flash on the screen which looks like the Dell boot logo, then it goes back to black and sits there with no change. I thought it was the hard drive as it has happened before and a new hard drive fixed the problem temporarily but now after 180 bucks for a new drive, five months later it is occurring again. I ordered a new drive online this time and after installation, I get the two beeps with a black screen so it obviously does not recognize that there is a drive in it. What can I do? Is the old drive bad or is it another issue? After placing the new drive in the laptop and getting the two beeps I replaced the old drive back in and I did not get the beeps so it was recognized but still the black screen. Is the old drive still good and what do I do to fix this frustrating issue?

Hi Arkhangel1,
Welcome to the community.
It appears you are facing a hardware issue with the laptop. In case you are getting 2 beeps, it means either the RAM of the laptop has gone bad or it is not detected by the motherboard. In this case I would suggest you to run a test on the hardware by performing the following steps-
1. Shutdown the computer.
2. Press and hold the key, then press and release the power button.
3. Release the key.
The PSA diagnostics sequence begins.
After approximately 2 minutes the system produces a number of alert tones.
After the alert tones, the system produces either a series of low beeps or error codes.
4. Note the sequence of beeps or error codes.
In case you are not able run a test, I would suggest you to reseat (unplug it and plug it back again) the memory chips. You can follow the instructions provided in the following link to reseat the memory chips-

Let me know of the findings, Glad to be of assistance.
