Boot on a USB 3 port

Hi,

On my Precision M6500, I try to boot on an external USB3 hard drive.

But, the USB 3 hard drive does not appear in the BIOS, so I cannot boot on it... But, if I go under Windows, it works correctly.

If I plug the HDD on a USB 2 port, it works correctly.

Is there a way (or a new bios) to make USB3 port bootable ?

Thank you and best regards,

Marc.

It is strange !

When I bought this PC to DELL, I have precisely asked to be able to boot on an USB3 external disk... And they say it was OK with the DELL Precision M6500...

Most likely not, since the USB 3 controller isn't part of the system chipset - it is an add-on chip.

The forthcoming Intel Sandy Bridge architecture includes USB 3.0 support and will likely allow booting from the USB 3.0 port.

Does someone know if the Precision M6500 has the "power over eSATA" functionnality ?
