Hi Rfwdwork,

Thank you for the response. The driver link mentioned in my above post is common for both the card. You may go to Device Manager and check for the name of the card. once the driver is installed.

  • Press and hold the Windows key and press 'R' key. This will open the run window
  • Type 'devmgmt.msc' without the parenthesis, click on 'Ok'
  • This will open 'Device Manager' window
  • Expand 'Network adapters' to check for the wireless card. You may refer the image below

Please reply if you have any questions.

Hi Rfwdwork,

Inspiron 1501 is shipped with 2 type of wireless cards:

  • Dell Wireless 1390 a/b/g WLAN Mini-Card
  • Dell Wireless 1490 a/b/g WLAN Mini-Card

You may try the following driver and check if it works:

  • Click on the link http://dell.to/YAjeKl
  • Click on ‘Download File’
  • Check on the radio box ‘Single-file download’
  • Click on ‘Continue’
  • Choose the location as desktop,
  • Click on ‘Save’, save the file on the desktop
  • Double click on the file; choose ‘Continue’
  • Click 'OK' on ‘Select the folder’ where you want to unzip the files (make a note of the folder location)
  • Click ‘Yes’
  • Click ‘Ok’, follow the on screen instructions and install the file
  • Restart the computer

In case you do not get prompts on the screen for instructions, then

  • Browse to the folder where the files were unzipped and locate the setup file
  • Double click on the file; follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation

Hope this helps.

Hi, Dell-Appu s

Could you tell me how I can tell if the wireless card is a 1390 or 1490? I had the card out and looked, both sides of the card, could not determine if it was a 1390 or a 1490. I will check out that link that you sent and check out the driver, Thank you, for the timely response. I hope it is the correct driver, as I am angcious to see if the wifi card works or if I have to replace it.

Hi Rfwdwork,

Thank you for the response. The link I shared is likely to work for both the wireless adapters. Please keep me posted on the status.
