Burn process failed at.... PROBLEM!!! Please help

I can't burn audio CD's anymore.  All happened from one day to another.  Everytime I'm burning a cd, I get a message in the middle of the process notifying me that the burn process failed at 10x or whatever speed.  I have read in the forum, people with the same problem, but I haven't found a solution yet.  I tried to update firmware, but i couldn't.  It says that this program can't be used for the selected device, but that is imposible because I'm using the update for the CD burner i have GCC-4241N.

My computer is an Inspiron 5100.  I'm using Nero. I will start to think that the drive is damaged or something.

I have tried every speed.  I just wrote 10x as an example. So that means my driver is @#$% up?

Nero has an option to select a burning speed.  If it fails at 10X, dumb it down to 8X and so forth to see what the threshold is.  This will give you an idea if the drive is toast.  If it does burn at a lower speed then issue solved.  If not, there's proof the drive passed away quietly.

Not neccassarily.  Try a different burning app than Nero and see if the same results apply.  I had a similar issue with Nero that led me to use Roxio in the end.  It may just be an issue with your burning app.  Try that first.
