Can't get Start Menu
I have a Inspiron 1100 and something has happened that Windows will start, my background screen will come up, with all my program icons except the start bar on the bottom. I've tried to pull it up with the keyboard (the windows key and E to get windows explorer) but nothing. I can open the programs that have icons on the screen, but can't get into anything else to see what's going on. The computer seems to be trying to do something, but can't. Any suggestions? Please help. Trying to avoid getting caught up calling Dell today. Thanks so much

Well, this is probably overly obviouse so I probably either dont know the answer or missunderstood your question but...
Have you tried to just "pull" up the taskbar useing your mouse? (in other words have your mouse pointer as close to the bottom of the screen as possible {untill you get the little arrow thingy} and then left click and drag up.)

Hi,
Welcome to Dell community forums.
Press CTRL+ESC. If your Taskbar magically reappears, then it's probably simply been resized too small, repositioned somewhere you didn't expect it, or perhaps it's beneath another application that's running full-screen on your Computer.
If CTRL+ESC didn't make it come back, then the program that displays the task bar most likely isn't running. That program is often called the "Windows Shell", but it's really "explorer.exe ".
The workaround: press CTRL+ALT+DEL to fire up the Task Manager. Now on the File menu, select New Task (Run...). Type “explorer" and press OK. That should restart explorer and re-display your Taskbar.
In some cases that may not work, so we fall into the various approaches on fixing it.
"My first recommendation is to run an up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spyware scan." Both viruses and spyware are known to occasionally interfere with the Windows Shell. Then, kindly run the system file checker, to know more about the system file checker click on this URL: http://bit.ly/c5TPtz . That will check for missing or damaged files in Windows, and repair or replace those that it can.
If still that doesn’t shows up then you can try doing system restore which might fix this issue.
Feel free to reply in case you have any questions.
Thanks & Regards
