Cannot record from USB audio interface
I have a Dell Vostro 1500 running XP and am trying to make voice recordings with the laptop. I have a Sennheiser wireless mic and receiver plugged into a Tascam USB 2.0 Audio/Midi interface. This goes into one of the laptop USB ports. I am trying to record using Audacity 1.2.6 software.
I can record using the built-in mics of the laptop if the recording control panel is set for digital mic. I cannot get any sound to register from the wireless mic/USB interface system regardless of what is checked on the recording control panel (Line-in, Microphone or Digital Mic). The built-in laptop mic is always seems to be active unless I turn off the sound card.
Any suggestions on what I can do? thanks!

Does the control panel have the word "Sigmatel" on it, something like this?
If it does then your usb device might not be selected as the default recording device. I don't have your setup -- I have a Soundblaster usb soundcard, and when it is the default device then I see its control panel instead of the Sigmatel's.

JIMCO,
Thanks for the reply. Control Panel has "SigmaTel Audio" in it, but it looks different from yours. It has a single tab ("Advanced") with 2 check boxes ("Enable Power Management" and "Allow reconfiguration popups"). There are no options for different recording devices.
Under Control Panels - Sound and Audio Devices - Audio Tab - Sound Recording, I have only have the option for "SigmaTel Audio" when the Tascam Interface is plugged into the USB port. However, if I plug a microphone headset into the USB, I also get the option of selecting the headset.

The computer can only have one default audio playback device and one default audio recording device at a time (they do not have to be the same device). So when Sigmatel is selected then the Tascam is not being used. I don't know why the Tascam is not appearing as one of the options. It could be something like it needs a driver or the usb port is not supplying enough power to it. You might try a different usb port.
