Code 10 SD Card Reader Error

Question

I give up!!!! I have been trying to get my Dell XPS M170 to read my SD Card for ages. I keep getting a Code 10 Error this device cannot start. i've done evertying uninstalled all of my USB drivers and SD card reader and let them reinstall disabled the device and restarted and alas nothing. I have downloaded the drivers that should supposdly get it too work and the device will now show up in my computer after a period of time where my computer freezes trying to read the sd card. but now it says that it needs to be reformatted. But at least there's no code 10.   I am at a loss as too what to do.  How can I get this fixed. The hotfix from microsoft does not work because it tells me that I am operating a newer version of Windows XP (SP3) so the update is not needed.    I am now stuck. WHAT DO I DO!!!???.. Also as a reference, that driver (RICOH) that I installed and is getting it too show up will not go away now. i'm trying to revert to the driver that is preinstalled with Windows. But i do not know how to remove the driver from my computer..    Thanks for all your help. Hopefully with all you smart people out there we will pulverize this stupid error code

It's not the ideal solution, I know... but one option would be to try/buy a cheap external card reader/writer?

Hohum... I thought about that. I do appreciate it. I have enough trouble remembering my Mouse and Headphones :(....

Maybe uninstall SP3, try reinstalling drivers for card reader, then reinstall SP3..   or.. unistall SP3, apply microsoft hotfix.. see if that works.. good luck!
