Just plug in a usb mouse while the computer is on. 

is is true that usb is hot-pluggabe,,,but i allways suggest to those that use a usb mouse to turn the computer off, and plug in the usb device. there are those that are going to argue with me,,,but even the computer tech book i am reading suggests turning off the computer first, even though usb is hot-pluggable..
