D600 Battery Status Light Interpretation

The battery indicator light on the display window on the right hinge of the D600, is flashing red about 5 times then briefly turns green and then repeats the pattern again and again and again.

Looking through the user's guide, the only information I found about the battery indicator light is this:

Check the battery status light — If the battery status light flashes orange or is a steady orange the battery harge is low or depleted. Connect the computer to an electrical outlet.

If the battery status light flashes green and orange, the battery is too hot to charge. Shut down the computer, disconnect the computer from the electrical outlet, and then let the battery and computer cool to room temperature.

If the battery status light rapidly flashes orange, the battery may be defective

I assume the red light I see, is referenced in the manual to the "orange" light.   Does anyone have an idea what the pattern of 5 flashing red lights and then briefly flashing green and then the pattern repeating mean?

When I press the battery button, the middle and two end LED's light up.  They do not blink.  The information from this Dell web page (http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?c=us&cs=19&dl=false&l=en&s=dhs&docid=12FCCAA558727884E0401E0A55172D6B&doclang=en

indicate that the battery is damaged.

Any one have any ideas?

The flashing pattern means that one or more of the cells in the battery has failed.
