D600 Multiple Monitor Setup

I am trying to use the monitor on my laptop and an external monitor.  I have tried downloading the Hydravision drivers and installing them.  However, I can not get it to display as one big monitor.  I would like to have one application on one screen and another on the second screen.  I have done this in the past with a different laptop, just can't seem to get this one to work.  I believe that I may just be missing something.  Please help.  Any suggestions would be more than welcome.

You need to install the latest ATI adapter driver from the Dell download site for the D600.  Not Hydravision.  Then go into Display Settings > Advanced > Displays to setup the streched desktop.  My D600 is working like this right now....

Steve911,
Thanks for the info.  Removed all ATI drivers including Hydravision.  Reinstalled the latest driver for the D600.  I see the Displays tab  you spoke of, but no matter what combination of buttons I set, I still get the same image on both the laptop and external monitor.  Is there something that I am missing here?  Your help is greatly appreciated.

Steve911,

I finally got it.  Not used to having to set everything up before I go into advanced for both monitors.  The second monitor was still disabled.  That's what I was missing.  Thanks so much for all your help.  I really do appreciate it.  THANKS!

Hi, I have a D600 on a MR9000 video card and i can never get the window desktop to extend beyond one LCD panel.

I have downloaded the latest ATi driver from Dell website and installed it but I still cannot get the desktop to stretch across 2 LCD panels,

can you advise how did you manage to do it?

Thanks a million

When you go into the Display properties, under the Settings Tab, do you see two blue boxes 1 and 2? If so, you will need to pick on the 2 and look for a check box in the lower left corner that says, "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor".  If you put a check in this box, you can go to the Advanced settings and set up the Display from there.

This is fuuny part, under the display settings, it is reflected as Mulitple Monitors on Mobility Radeon 9000 but there is no option to "extend window desktop".  Under Advanced, Display, the only options are for me to select the various outputs like LCD panel, LCD monitor, CRT Monitor or generic TV. The option that you describe did not appear at all.

I tried Hydravision with botht eh notebook LCD on and the LCD monitor and Hydravision reports that it can only detect one active monitor.

A friend have a D400 and the display settings is exactly what you have described.  I suspect it have to do with the graohics driver,  I am using the following driver, R89637.exe From Dell .com, ATI version 6.14.10.6476 dated 8/31/2004 and which driver did you get from Dell? and how did you get the Display settings to prompt the multiple monitors selection option.

Thanks

Thanks, I am able to find the driver on the Dell website, i noticed that it is meant for Windows XP, while I am running Windows 2000 Professional...I wonder if there will be a problem if I installed this version.

Thanks for your tip. I have find a slightly older drvier for Win2K which have a a fix that says "Adds Mode Persistence and Panel Rotation Functionality" I wonder if this will enable the Extend Window desktop feature.

i will try bnoth driver and see if it works.

Thanks

Hi, I tried downloading the R82040.EXE but it cannot work with Win2K, I even tried the earlier versions of drivers that were issued from Dell website for a Latitude D600, Win2K and Mobility Radeon 9000 graphics card but it crashed my system and I had to re-start from then default VGA drivers. so here I am, back to square one, unable to extend the windows desktop.

Any more suggestions?

Thanks

FYI, I'm running a D600 with a D/Dock.  I've installed a cheap video card in my dock slot, (Jaton Video-208PCI-64Twin) and I now run my laptop panel and a FP1704 Flat Panel.  I can "extend my desktop" and it works wonderful.

What I'd like to do, is find someone that has done the same thing without a D/Dock, but instead using a D/View Stand together with an external Display.  This would save some real estate.  Not sure how to accomplish this as the D/View supposedly only supports a D/Port and the D/Port doesn't have any slots for a secondary video card.
