Well, I have got a D800 and I get bsods as well.

IRQ not less or equal whatever.

I remember on my desktop when that used to happen it was because the bios settings were not set to "plug and play OS" (abit MB), and ALSO that there was too many components shared on the same IRQ.To resolve that problem, I use to swap (pci slots) the sound card for example with my scsi card, so that the bios would reshuffle the IRQ assigation. In the case of my D800, of course I can' t change components like that, there is no pci slots.I did notice on my D800 a VERY impressive number of components being shared on IRQ 11, video card, bluetooth, modem, ect.Too many componets shared on one specific IRQ in deffinetly not good, especially if the drivers are a bit young, which is the case for most of them.

I have never tried to reassign componets onto another IRQ via software, (I wonder if it is possible).

If it is then it might be worth trying (in my case free IRQ 11 a bit), or wait for better drivers.

Just thought I'd report back.  ..

I did what I said I would.  I got in touch with Crucial to return my 2x512Mb DIMMs.  Initially they said it was a known problem and sent me an email which turned out to be a list of generic things to check.  Interestingly I found my page file was hard set to 192 Mb, when I thought it would have automatically increased with installing the extra RAM.  I thought this may be the problem, so resized to 2048 Mb, but had a crash within a few hours.

So Crucial arranged for a return and I ordered replacement memory from Dell.  This arrived last Thursday and was Kingston brand.  I fitted it straight away and haven't had a single crash yet, in a full week of intensive use (nothing else has changed on the PC).   So for me it seems the Crucial memory was the cause of the problem.

Whilst running (and crashing!) with the Crucial RAM, I tried various methods to trouble-shoot the problem.  As I said previously I ran a memory checker overnight which found no problems.  I also thought that maybe just one of the DIMMs was faulty (or the problem was heat related) so ran with just one DIMM until a crash, then swapped them over until the next crash.  During this test the PC managed to run for 4 days between crashes which is why I've waited a week to report on the Kingston RAM.

One minor difference I noticed when fitting the Kingston RAM is that it's enclosed in a thin piece of metal (aluminium) that I guess is either to distribute heat or protect the RAM from RF interference.  Anyway it was nice that it wasn't identical looking to the Crucial RAM.

So I can only speculate as to what the problem was:

o I don't think the Crucial RAM was faulty as such but possibly is just 'incompatible' with the Dell D600.

o Maybe the D600 is 'tougher' on RAM and the timings it expects are towards the limit of the RAM's specifications.

o Maybe even some Dell OEM memory is affected by this.

o Maybe the problem isn't specific to the D600 but affects the Centrino chipsets in general.

If it is a general problem with Crucial RAM and D600's (or possibly even Centrinos) then I'm surprised there aren't more posts in this thread, but maybe people accept the odd crash as normal ?

I'll report back if anything changes (e.g it crashes)

Don't know much about the D600s, but I (and many others) had the same problem with my Inspiron 2650.  I bought new memory, ran diagonostics, reformatted the HD and reinstalled the OS.  Nothing helped.  Turns out the problem was with the video card/system, and once Dell released a BIOS fix that updated the VGA BIOS of the machine all the BSODs went away.

I'd deluge Dell Tech support with a request for an immediate BIOS update (just like they did for us I2650 users) to address this issue.

Hope this helps.

D600 w/ Windows XP.

Same issue here - IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD in intermittent basis.  Re-installing the OS and starting from scratch does not seem to make any difference.

I suspect that it is a driver or bios issue.

I have been using my D600 (1.7GHz, 512MB Crucial + 256MB Dell RAM) for a few weeks now, and have yet to experience the intermitent BSODs that have been reported in this, and various other threads.

The Crucial 512MB RAM seems to be ok, although it does get quite warm/hot after intensive use. The stick I purchased from Crucial has the part number CT6464X265.16F, manufactured in week 18 of 2003. It is the 16-chip Micron BGA package, spec sheet:

The Dell 256MB stick is also manufactured by Micron; its spec sheet is here:

No problems using both of these, although the memory cover does get quite toasty after some intensive usage.

These messages were very helpful in solving the problem on my D600.

I purchased the laptop last May with 512Mb RAM; it crashed within hours of setup and has crashed regularly since -- usually every day or two, often every few hours. About a month ago I installed another  512Mb of Kingston RAM and the problem continued as before

I performed the usual BIOS and driver upgrades and called called Dell a few times and got the usual suggestions (you've all gotten them, so no need to go into it here).

For the past week I've been using the laptop out of the docking station connected via wireless, which I've suspected exacerbated the problem, and have been getting crashes every few hours.

After looking at these message board comments I removed the original 512Mb RAM that came with the laptop and moved the Kingston RAM to its slot. NO CRASHES FOR SEVERAL DAYS!!!

Note that there is no obvious brand name on the RAM that came with my D600, but there is a logo showing an "M" with an ellipse around it.

Obviously I'll be calling Dell and demanding that  they replace the original RAM.

Well, it's good to know I'm not the only one.

I started from scratch as well and things improve for a while and then things go crashing again with 2 512 MB Crucial RAM. I.e. Installing the OS...

It is interesting to note that the CT6464X265.16F, has been reported to work without a hitch. However, the RAM I get all the time from Crucial (3rd time) is CT646X265.8T...I asked specifically for CT6464X265.16F, BUT they said they are not making those anymore...Who knows, I ordered from Canada.

I get CT646X265.8T, which has been claimed to have problems...

I too have the same problem. Unfortuantely, I do not have Crucial RAM, but instead my D600 came with Samsung RAM. I have a 1.8GHz, 512Mb, 60 GB Drive with Bluetooth, ProSet 2200 b/g, CDRW/DVD. I usually get the blue screen of death when I try to use something like LimeWire or BearShare, otherwise my system is fine. Anyone have any ideas on this? I wish dell would get off their chairs and actually do something about this problem. I continually get the run around from them, so needless to say, tech support is useless on the phone. All of the drivers on my laptop are older than those posted on the support site. What the heck is that? They post them, but won't install them on the machines, when you order them? My laptop is only 3 weeks old, and I'm already having issues.
