D620 Alps touchpad tapping disable registry
Hello,
I have a new D620 that I would like to disable the tapping feature on the touchpad in the alps driver set. I have found it in the bios but I make the change and it does nothing.
I have tried under HKCU and HKLM Software/alps/Tapping/Tapping I have tried setting them to 0.
Thanks,
Jason

"Touch Pad" Tab, remove the check in the "Tapping" Box at upper left, then click "Apply".
This turns it off completely, all the time. There is also an option for typing, to
turn it off while typing only.

I am going to put this in the default user and that should fix my problem.
Thanks,

If you have reloaded WinXP Operating System, should install Chipsets (all four) first.
Another OS, click "Change Selection" on that site.
Reboot between each install.

There is something always defaulting this alps driver to force "tapping" on for the touchpad. I have tried everywhere in the registry for this. It make no difference what I do in the registry it will not effect the application. Going through the application is the only way I see to turn this off.
Any inside would be nice.
Thanks,
Jason

(Note: If like me you came to this post trying to figure out how to disable "tap to click"... You might try looking in C:\Program Files\DellTPad for a file called DTPad.exe. If its there run that and click "Touchpad Settings". Uncheck Tap to Click under Taps and click Apply. Then be sure to click the Pointing Stick tab, uncheck Tap to Click under taps there too and click Apply. That one prevents hand brushes over the pointing stick from registering as clicks.)

I was trying to figure out how to disable "tap to click" on my Latitude E5410 with Win 7 (I have an Alps touchpad) and couldn't find a way to administer touchpad settings from the notification area... Finally a found a way to do it though. Try looking in C:\Program Files\DellTPad for a file called DTPad.exe. If its there run that and click "Touchpad Settings". Uncheck Tap to Click under Taps and click Apply. Then be sure to click the Pointing Stick tab, uncheck Tap to Click under taps there too and click Apply. That one prevents hand brushes over the pointing stick from registering as clicks.

I too need to know what registry settings I need to adjust to stop the "Tapping" options. Using the software options method is not going to work for several reason one of which is that it seems to be a per user setting and I need to turn it off for ALL users in one quick .reg file run.
Why having it on is the default I will never understand as it is absolutely the most annoying feature I have ever run in to. It is constantly causing the wrong windows or programs to open and close at the most inopportune times. The systems I am dealing with are frozen and a new profile is created every time a person logs in. I need to know the exact location of the registry settings so that I can modify my "default" reg settings to always have this feature disabled.
Dell also needs to get with Microsoft so that it can be disabled without installing the Alps software which other than to turn off this annoying feature I have never needed and I do not need it running in the background eating up resources either, just so I can get rid of this pest.
Thanks for the help,
