I am having the same problem as mentioned above I've tried with and with out battery to load the system but it fails and is stuck at the Dell startup logo 2/3 of the bar in progress,on pressing either of the F2 or F12 buttons,the options get highlighted but doesn't go further,on pressing Esc it shows BIOS information and on pressing F2 on this screen it shows "Entering Setup" but doesn't go beyond it.On pressing Alt,Ctrl & Delete it restarts the system but still doesn't go beyond Dell startup logo but it proves that the Integrated Keyboard is still working and the system is not completely frozen as it accepts keys commands to certain effect.And I believe there is not a problem with my Harddisk either as in the case of Travis as Dell Support Center Software tests had not reported any problems with the harddisk or any other components on the system on previous night and also I didn't notice any problems previously on the operations of harddisk and besides in all the years of experience I've garnered using Windows based systems I know that if harddisk or OS were the culprits at least the system should progressed beyond BIOS startup screen and would display that no boot media found or no harddisk detected or harddisk failure(though I may be wrong and learn something new about system crashes :emotion-1: ).This my humble opinion.And one thing more on pressing Esc the system BIOS information shows passed against physical memory information.
So.anybody out there can you help me in resolving this issue.I'll be obliged.
Try running the onboard hardware diagnostics.To run the diagnostics press and hold down Fn key and press the power button to turn on the system(while holding down Fn key).
Post back error code/message if any.
Also please confirm your system model and version of Windows installed.
I called up a cousin of mine to help(He is an IT Manager/Administrator with quite a experience in Software side but he not a Hardware Pro).After trying the above mentioned procedures, he tried to run the diagnostics from the CD provided by the Dell on purchase (Drivers And Utilities P/N GX7TK Rev.A01 September 2009) as he thought system would boot from the CD. But the system didn't boot from it and the CD got stuck as there is no button(Slot Load CD/DVD Drive) to eject it in BIOS mode or a small hole in which by inserting a pin you can manually eject the CD(as built in a Retracting Tray CD/DVD Drive).Is there a way to eject Slot Load Drive in BIOS mode or eject it manually. Then he remove the CMOS battery to reset the BIOS to see that if it works but to no avail, then he suggested that maybe the system is trying to boot from the CD and something is stuck in the CD Drive(as there are many little children around in my house and there is a chance that someone had inserted something in the drive in my absence),so he suggested that we remove the drive and the tedious task began(as either one of us had not opened up a Laptop before we seek help from the internet to dissemble the laptop, we did so because the warranty had already expired so what the hell ).We took reference from the following site: http://www.insidemylaptop.com/how-to-disassemble-dell-studio-1555-laptop/
Is there a Dell manual to do so please provide me the link if you know.
Step by step we progressed to gain access to the DVD drive and removed it(with minor mishaps along the way) and then we reassembled the laptop again and pushed the power button viola the system booted perfectly and we gained access to the OS but the Touch Pad was not working(it was reassembled in a haste as my cousin was in my house for long time and it was getting late at night and he had to go to his job morrow) so he left me with the job to redo the de-assembly/assembly of the laptop again(armed with the new knowledge to open up a laptop I gratefully obliged ).
So I opened up the laptop again and connected the DVD drive again to see what happens and connected the data cable of the Touch Pad which was loose and did the re-assembly of laptop and powered it up and the system booted normally again and all things were working fine except the DVD drive it ejected the CD but when I re-inserted the CD it showed the capacity of the drive but reported as there is no media on it(I thought may it was the CD as it got all scratched up as my cousin tried to pry it out manually from the drive when we took it out from the laptop). Then I used the Dell Support Center Software to check the condition of the drive and this time I did a custom check bellow is the log file:
Note: In this log it shows DRAM & Spindle Test Not Supported it is done after I upgraded the firmware of DVD Drive to version D900 from Dell Site, but I did a check before the upgrade when the firmware version was D500 the results showed DRAM as passed and Spindle Test as failed.
All of my OS Updates are current including the optional ones too. And I never did a Re-installation of the OS or any software preinstalled/factory default with the system. About 20 days or a month back I upgraded the BIOS and Dell Support Center software from Dell Site.
So, Roshan can you elucidate on what happened there. Why the System was not booting. Any clues.

Removed memory modules and on powerup 1555 beeps. Put memory modules back and back to original problem with about 2/3rd of the startup bar complete.

My system model is Studio 1555 and my OS version is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit(see my tags)
My problem got solved but none of your suggestions worked. I tried the Fn key (as to the procedure laid down by you) and the F12 as mentioned in the following article:

Note: In this log it shows DRAM & Spindle Test Not Supported it is done after I upgraded the firmware of DVD Drive to version D900 from Dell Site, but I did a check before the upgrade when the firmware version was D500 the results showed DRAM as passed and Spindle Test as failed.
All of my OS Updates are current including the optional ones too. And I never did a Re-installation of the OS or any software preinstalled/factory default with the system. About 20 days or a month back I upgraded the BIOS and Dell Support Center software from Dell Site.
So, Roshan can you elucidate on what happened there. Why the System was not booting. Any clues.

Hi Tariq,
Is it not reading both CD and DVD? Did you run the test with CD/DVD in the optical drive?
To further check run the onboard diagnostics by tapping F12 on start up(Dell logo),select Diagnostics.
Note:Make sure there is no Cd or DVD in the drive while running the diagnostics.
