Dell Inspiron 1011 and Windows 10
Having been through all of the recent posts, I find that no one else has complained about not receiving a Windows 10 App for the upgrade.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1011 with 1.6Ghz processor, 2GB memory 100GB free hard disk space, DirectX 11, Windows 7 SP1, 1024 x 600 display and auto update enabled. This machine, out of all of them, has been ignored for upgrade, even though it would seem to have all the recommended features or better. What do I have to do to get it recognised?
Any suggestions welcome, even if just educated guesses.
Thank you.

Many are getting incompatible errors regarding the Intel 945GM video however in my testing with Windows 10 Insider Build 10130 it runs fine, see here:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-win_upgrade/three-of-my-computers-now-say-win10-is/9bddbb15-4a03-4a7a-a4ed-5e44361f5606?page=1
I would therefore go ahead and reserve the upgrade.

That system should run fine on Windows 10 x86. See here:

Thank you very much for your help with this. I have tried the suggested routine twice, and still have no Windows 10 offer, therefore I must assume that even though the machine seems very capable, there must be some other reason that they are not allowing an upgrade to this particular computer.

There have been some reports of users getting the updates but being told the 945GM graphics are incompatible. This is nonsense as you can see from here:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/3524/t/19635509
In your case its different as you aren't even getting the notification. What is your Edition and product ID of Windows in System Properties?
If you are on factory settings however I would suggest that you upgrade Dell Backup and Recovery to the latest version and create a 16 GB USB flash drive:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/dell-backup-and-recovery-1-8-1-71/
You can then restore to factory settings from the USB.
Remove McAfee and use the McAfee removal tool:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/software-maintenance/uninstall-mcafee-and-the-mcafee-removal-tool/
Update Windows completely using the WSUS Offline Update:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/wsus-offline-update/
Then use Windows Update and see if you get the notification.

Hi NATAKUC4
Thank you for all of your help with this. I have now managed to dispose of a weekend plus a couple of days, and I am back where I started, still lacking a Windows 10 icon.
Everything went to plan apart from the WSUS offline update, which refused to co-operate. I was therefore left having to update the machine manually. I have gained 10GB disk space from somewhere, but have lost enough hours to pay for a brand new dual core computer with Windows 10 loaded.
It has at least been a fairly educational process however, so I don't mind having experienced this attempt to enable the Windows 10 offer.
I am going to defer to the gods and give up now.
The current Windows edition and the product ID is Windows 7 Starter copyright © 2009 Microsoft Corporation. Service Pack 1. 00342-OEM-8992707-00082.

Okay that's the correct product ID for the Dell OEM Windows 7 Starter license. Since you are up to date, the system should be ready. Try to follow the instructions here in the Microsoft Answers FAQ:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-win_upgrade/i-want-to-reserve-my-free-copy-of-windows-10-but-i/848b5cce-958b-49ae-a132-a999a883265b
P.S. the license is eligible.

Hi NATAKUC4
I have definitely reached the end now. After all effort expended chasing the elusive icon, you have eventually succeeded in getting me to the finish line.
Running the 'Get Windows 10' then results in:
Here's why Windows 10 can't be installed on this PC.
Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family
You'll experience problems with your display.
I assume that this is the Intel 945GM driver problem that you mentioned right at the outset, so I now have the icon without the ability to select a reservation. I am now at least in the company of numerous other people unable to update because of the video, or would I be able to upgrade using the Intel Chipset Device Software and the Intel Video (32 Bit) on my existing Windows 7 software?
Thank you for all of your help yet again.

Thank you again for all of your very helpful suggestions.
The icon, unlike with my other computers, doesn't even provide the option to reserve. Since they have rejected the possibility of this machine running Windows 10, they obviously think that it isn't worth providing even a chance of trying.
I will await the 29th July with interest, and see if they provide an opportunity to download the upgrade even without them having given sanction for the hardware.
Without you, I wouldn't have got this far, and would never have known the reason for their refusal.

As it turns out, I didn't need the Windows 10 icon to reserve the update, as I have just now found a 'Reserve' button in the Windows update section of the Control Panel. It would seem as though I have eventually completed my task.

I have the same problem - despite repeated Windows updates I don't get the icon to reserve. I ran the app at aka.ms/dig_gw10app and it says it can't run on Windows Enterprise even though I have Starter with license code 00342-OEM-8992707-00082
I can't see any buttons in Windows Update to reserve so what else can I try/
