Dell Inspiron 17R DVD boot

I am trying to reinstall my old OS back from windows 8. I have tried to set up my boot options to load from cd but it still tries to load windows 8. I cannot get into windows 8 because of a hardware driver that was installed from dell that dell said was vompatible with windows 8 wasn't. I get a frowny face and freezes. I just need to know how to boot from cd. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

You can use the F12 menu to boot from DVD:

  • Insert the Windows DVD in the CD/DVD drive and restart the computer.
  • Tap the key at Dell logo to access the ‘One Time Boot Menu’.
  • Press the ‘Down’ arrow key to highlight CD/DVD drive and press ‘Enter’.
  • When the message ‘Press any key to boot from CD/DVD’ appears, immediately press any key on keyboard.

Also, did you upgrade to Windows 8 or install a retail version?

Hope this helps.

I did tht and it still skips over the CD/DVD drive and tries to load from the harddrive. It is bypassing what I tell it to do and doing what it wants to do.

Thank you for the response.

Initially, how did you install Windows 8; USB flash drive or DVD?
Also, try to boot from Drivers and Utilities DVD to check if the DVD has failed.

  • Insert the Drivers and Utilities DVD in the CD/DVD drive and restart the computer.
  • Select Boot from CD-ROM option from the DVD boot menu.

Please try these steps and revert with the results.
