Dell Inspiron Error 0xc00000e9

Hi, I don't know much about computers so I'm just going to make this quick and easy. My laptop was recently running normally, everything was doing fine until I Powered it on one day and Windows wouldn't boot up. It brought me to screen that said, "Start windows normally" and "Launch Repair (Recommended)". Everything I try to do just leads me to an Error message 0xc00000e9 page. I Pressed F8 and tried putting it into Safe mode and Safe Mode with Command Prompt but it still continued to bring me to the Error Message. Someone on another website told me that I could buy a Disk or something to fix it but PLEASE NOTE that I have a lot of important things on there so if theres any way I can back it up before I do anything to my laptop I would like to know how to do so.

- Thanks

F12 at powerup - boot to the Dell diagnostics and run the quick tests.  Once they complete, choose the extended tests and run a full hard drive diagnostic.

I cannot even get to the diagnostics when I press F12, only "Boot Menu" that asks "Select a Boot First device" with Hard Disk, CDROM, and Utility Partition as options.  no diagnostic.  I have a Inspiron 530 desktop.  Any help would be great.

Hard drive is dead.  Registry is corrupt.

There are no software fixes for this.

Reinstall on a new drive.

 status: 0xc00000e9. Info: Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing, or corrupt

If you have run the extended -- NOT just the quick -- hard drive diagnostic, and the drive passed, you can restore the system to as-shipped:

www.dell.com/.../ArticleView

BEFORE you do this, remove the hard drive, mount it in an external case, and attach it to a working system by USB so you can back up your data files.

This error is sometimes an indication that the hard drive may be failing.  Complete the following steps to check the integrity of your hard drive. If you are unable to get to the Advanced Boot Option menu using the F8 key, you will need to obtain a Windows DVD.

1.      Restart your computer, tapping on the F8 button until you reach the Advanced Boot Options menu.

2.      Select Safe Mode with command prompt.

3.      Type chkdsk /r (there is a space between k and /)

Once you are able to start Windows, backup all of your important data.

Data Recovery:

1. Slave your Hard Drive in another computer, and read/save your Data from there.

2. Put your Hard drive in a USB Hard Drive Enclosure, plug into another computer, and read/save from there.

3. Or, use Knoppix Live CD to recover your Data:

www.knopper.net/.../index-en.html

Download/Save the above Knoppix Live CD ISO file.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
Download the Disc Burning software from the above link.
After installing above ISO burning software, right-click on Knoppix ISO file > Copy Image to CD.
Knoppix does not install on your PC; just uses your PC's resources, RAM, Graphics, etc.
Change the Boot Order in YOUR computer/laptop to make the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the Boot Order.
Plug in a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read your Hard Drive.
When the desktop loads, you will see at least two hard drive icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive and one for the USB drive).
Click on the hard drive icons to open them up and figure out which drive is which.
Right-click the USB drive icon and choose "Actions > Change read/write mode" so you can write to the drive (it's read-only by default for security reasons).
Now find the files you want to back up and drag and drop them to the USB drive. When you are finished, shut down the system and remove the USB drive.
