Ahhh good, cause the BIOS password is a pain in laptops to get rid of! :-) In XP i belive there should be an option for a password reset if you punch it in too many times.. its been a looong time since i was on XP.. why doesn't the f8 key work? when the dell logo kicks in, do you constantly tap it and it does nothing or are you doing something different?

It sounds like a BIOS password?  If that is the case, you will have to contact dell to see if there is a clear password jumper or clear cmos jumper somewhere to get rid of it.  They should have some way to erase or reset it, but every laptop or netbook is different in that function.  If its a windows password and its windows 7, after putting in the password a few times it should ask you if you want to reset it.. i've never had to do that so hopefully someone can pick up the ball on that as I do not know the steps.

hmmm.. you might want to wait a split second after the dell logo goes away then tap it repeatedly (not hold).  If the windows xp splash screen pops up and you've done it a few times they might have disabled it, but i dont know why they would have.. hmmmmm... what i would do as well is google 'windows xp password reset' and see if anything comes up (there should be tons).. I would help out but i can't google from this computer (at work)... if i remember when i get home i'll take a look as well and see what i can find.

Hello! I found some things by googling xp reset disk usb, since a usb key is going to be the only way to get it reset.. there were several sites that i think might help, plus a site that has a trial software that might help as well (hopefully it doesn't lock out the password part.  http://www.ntfs.com/boot-disk.htm

Give that a shot and see how it works... :-)
