Dell Inspiron N4010 CPU Performance is not as expected.

Hi,

I have laptop Dell Inspiron N4010 and it has Intel Core i5 processor with speed 2.53 GHz on it.

It works normally, until two months ago.

After boot, it works normally and nothing wrong happened.

It works normally if i only use my laptop to browsing, hear music, or watch movies.

If i use application like Adobe Premiere or After Effects or games, it start to be very lag.

If i see to the CPU meter, it will show me 100% usage.

I already have this laptop for 2.5 years and a problem like this never happened before.

To  check what is happening to my laptop, i install Intel Processor Identification Utility.

The picture below show my procesor condition after boot:

And this picture below show my processor condition when the lag is happening:

I already tried to scan my laptop with antivirus and anti malware, but i have found nothing.

I also already formatted my laptop and updated my drivers, but the same problem still happened.

I already posted about this problem in Intel forum, but i still can't find the correct solution.

I hope someone here can help me to solve this problem.

Any comments and suggestions are welcomed.

Thank you.

Hi taufiksitompul,

I am responding on behalf of DELL-Vikram M. As you have mentioned that the system shuts down, there is a possibility that the system might be over-heating.  Did you clean the air vents of the computer? Were you able to update the BIOS of the computer?

Since the computer shuts down in diagnostics, I would recommend you to update the BIOS of the computer (is possible) and clean the air vents of the computer.

Alternatively, check if the system shuts down in BIOS:

  • Power off the computer
  • Restart the computer
  • Tap ‘F2’ on Dell logo 2-3 times
  • This will take you to the ‘BIOS’ screen
  • Please wait on the BIOS screen for few minutes and check if the shuts down

Please reply with the findings.

Hi taufiksitompul,

I will recommend you to run the diagnostics on your system to check the hardware functionality:

  • Restart your system and keep tapping 'F12' as soon as the Dell logo appears.
  • Highlight 'Diagnostics' using up and down arrow keys and press enter.
  • Diagnostics should start.
  • The color bars will be displayed.
  • Press 'Y' to continue the test.

Please let me know if you get any error message.

If the diagnostics pass, clean the air vents of your system:

  1. Check the vents on the computer to see if they are covered with dust and not allowing heat and air to pass through.
  2. Turn off the System.
  3. Unplug the AC Adapter.
  4. Remove the Battery.
  5. Use Compressed Air to blow the dust out of the vents.

Note: Do not use your mouth to blow the Dust out of a Laptop. If using a can of compressed air use the can according to the directions on the side of the can as you can cause damage to the computer if used incorrectly.

Also, update the BIOS of your system:

Note: The ac adapter should be connected and the battery should be at least 10% charged. Please disconnect all the external devices connected to the system before updating the BIOS. Please save all the unsaved data as your system will restart automatically while updating the BIOS.

  • Click on the link: http://dell.to/S7XAtt
  • Select "Single-file Download" and click on "Continue".
  • Click on "Run" and follow the on screen instructions.

Keep me updated. Please reply in case you have any further questions.
