Dell Inspiron N5010 - VGA Card Connection Problem to Projector
Good day all,
I have a small problem with my laptop. I formatted the installed Windows 7 and installed a totally new version of Windows 7 64 bits, which required me to re-install the drivers definitions all over again...so far so good and everything is working properly even the Quick Set buttons. HOWEVER, the button on F1 that is required to transfer the screen from the laptop through VGA cable to the Projector is not working.
I connect the VGA cable and laptop cannot recognize the connection. Please advise how I can solve this problem...
Thanks in advance :)

Hi slmat27,
Did you try switching the display by pressing the key combination Fn+F1?
If it did not work, try Windows key + P and check the display on the projector.
Also check in BIOS if “Function key behavior” is set to “Multimedia key first” or “Function key first”.
Start/restart the system. Hit the F2 key on the Dell logo screen to enter BIOS set up.
Under Advanced tab, Click “Advanced” tab, and check “Function key behavior” and change it to “Function key first”. Press F10 to save and exit.
Now connect the projector with a VGA cable and press Fn+F1 keys to switch the display to the projector.
Please post the results.

I tried the Function Key Behavior and the Multimedia Key Behavior and still no results
The laptop doesn't detect that it is connected to the projector :(
Thanks for your quick reply, but is there any other solutions?

Hi slmat27,
I would like to know if Chipset drivers were installed in the system, if not please use this link to install the chipset drivers: http://dell.to/11AWQS3
Click the link, follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation and restart the system.
Please uninstall and reinstall the Quickset application, follow the below mentioned steps:
1) Click “Start”, type “Programs and Features” and press enter.
2) In the “Programs and Features” window, right click “Quickset64”, click “Change/Uninstall”.
3) Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstallation.
4) Restart the computer.
5) Use the following link to download the Dell Quickset Application: http://dell.to/11pDC55
6) Restart the system and connect the projector with the laptop, use the key combination Fn+F1 or F1 key only and try to switch the display.
Please post the results.

Hi slmat27,
Did the issue start after windows reinstallation? Is the projector working fine with another computer? Also try a VGA monitor on the laptop and let us know the status.

Try clicking on the graphics driver on the system tray. Then under graphics options click on the option that says something either "dual display" or "clone." That will turn on both displays immediately. Moreover, once you set that, the function key to set the dual display or turn it off will work.
