Hi,

You can follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Drain the static power from the system:  remove the power cable and the battery. Hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds and then put the battery and the adapter back in and start the computer. Charge the battery and see if the issue is resolved.
2. Also check the jack on the AC Adapter for any damage.
3. Try charging with a good known AC Adapter.

If still the issue persists, restart the computer and the moment it starts start tapping the F2 key to boot the computer to BIOS where you would be able to find AC Adapter Type under: Main Menu- None, Unknown

Press F9 to reset the BIOS to factory default. While resetting the BIOS, the system will restart several times.

Also, please let me know how old is the system.

You can refer to the link for AC Adapter and Battery issue:

Please reply with the findings.

I drained the static power and it didn't work, the led keep on flashing orange 4 times and white 1 time; and I'm pretty sure that the AC Adapter it's working 'cause when I go to check it into the BIOS it says:

AC Adapter Type: 65W

I restored the BIOS to factory default but nothing changed, and my Laptop it's less than 1 year old, about 9 or 10 months.

Hi,

Thanks for the information. I would suggest you run PC checkup on the battery. Follow the steps below:

1. Click Start, All Programs, Dell, Dell Support Center and Launch PC Checkup.
2. Click the PC Checkup button and then click Run Custom Scan.
3. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the diagnostic.

Meanwhile, please let me know the % of charge that the battery holds and also the time the system can run on battery.

Please reply with the findings.

Thanks and Regards

Ok, here's the things I've found:

The Pc Checkup program tells me that everything on the system it's okay, nothing seems wrong.

The % charge that the battery holds is 52%, and the laptop can't run with the battery, it shuts down inmediatly when I disconnect it from the AC Adapter.

Hi,

Actually I am facing some problem which is related to the above topic, I had purchased a Dell INSP N5110 two months back in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia it has Service Tag: <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> . All of a sudden since last 2/3 days my battery is not getting fully charged it show "85% available, plugged in not charging". I tried for solution over web and were not helpful so I contacted my friend(hardware engineer) in Mumbai who had suggested me to fully empty the battery and select shutdown for critical battery, tried but for some while increased to 86% and then decreased to 83%.

Meanwhile googling a lot for dell support email id in Saudi found your post, kindly let me know if you have any solution for my problem.

Hi shaikh,

If you are getting error message of ‘Plugged in not charging’, follow the steps below:

1. Click Start and type Device Manager.
2. Expand the Batteries category.
3. Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall.
Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.
4. On the Device Manager taskbar and click Scan for hardware changes.

Windows will scan your computer for hardware that doesn't have drivers installed and will install the drivers needed to manage your battery's power.

If the issue persists, I would suggest you to perform the troubleshooting steps mentioned above.

I'm having the same problem on both N5110s that I have.  I think the solution is to buy an H-P.

I have exactly the same problem here, but Windows 7 says the battery is on 92% and charging (no, its not charging at all). I've also tried to turn of manually the charging of the battery using the Dell battery software, but it didn't work, its still on 92%.

4 orange, 1 white, no power without AC adapter...

Pls help! :(

I'm having the exact same problem, battery was absolutely fine up till last night started showing 4 orange lights followed by white. bios updated, all tests say it is fine but noticed it says 0mA. Laptop runs fine on on Dell AC power, tried a spare official adaptor and same problem, laptop won't boot from battery and switches off immediately if i remove the power cord. Power jack is fine although searching google points to faulty power jack board or battery.
