Dell Latitude E5400 confusing screen problems..

Hi There All...

Hope I can get a bit of advice from the forum please, I have a dell Latitude E5400, with Intel Graphics Chip-set.

My problem is that at the top of my screen I have these magenta and green coloured lines running across horizontally, and half my screen jumps (like a flickering Jump) intermittently, it would jump for 2 seconds, and then stop for two seconds, the lines don't go away when it stops though.

It starts doing this right from the Dell Splash screen. when you start the computer.

BUT, if you close the lid (screen goes dark) and leave it for a while, and open the lid (screen comes back on again), then it is fine for about 5minutes before all shaking hell brakes loose again. Almost like something is heating up, but I checked the heat sink and fan, all is fine, and I've downloaded the latest drivers for everything I could think of for it, also flashed the BIOS with latest version.

I have re-seated the connectors (on below the keyboard and one at the back of the LCD, also checked the loom found no broken cables.

If anybody has any idea what else I can check, do, download, install, beat with a large hammer, or anything, please let me know I would very greatly appreciate it!!

PS. I have done the BIST also, no luck there. and have also double cehked the RAM Modules, they are fine, have also moved to another location, and have removed the battery, as well as running it only on battery.

Thanks Everybody, hopefully I can be of help one day!

Wouter

I have about the same problem but my mine flashes all the time and I connect an external monitor and it works perfectly. So after hours and hours of reading up on this problem it seems that 1 of 2 things is causing my problem and or yours too and that is that the cables have came loose from their respective sockets which I can believe because I have upgraded mine from a 2 GHZ to a 2,8 GHZ CPU and doubled the memory and soon going to double the memory to the maxx of 4 GB and I have been right in that ares where the video cable plugs into the motherboard and graphics processor and its just a few screws to get into that area so I would definitely check those first to make sure they are seated good. If not then you have to get to the other end which is behind the LCD screen bezel which just snaps together and from what I have read this is also where the cable runs into the inverter board which is really cheap so I would replace that while I was in there because even new at 12.00 I wouldnt evven open up a laptop for 12.00 so change that just to be sure because your going to have both cables unplugged anyway so whats 1 more screw to replace the board and make sure all cables are seated good because they are just pushed in there and over time and hot and cold then could come loose. Thats my opinion for what its worth and I have been working on computers since they was 8088 series back in late 80's. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure I like to say. So any time your into any computer that deep think of everything you want to do to it before hand and have it ready and do it all at once.
