I have the same problem on my Latitude E6400 running Vista. It's taking up 132MB of RAM right now. That's more than Internet Explorer, Word, or Outlook.

Same deal here. Dell E6500, WinXP SP3, 4GB RAM.

I sometimes get messages about "Low Virtual Memory" and when I look at the task manager, BcmDeviceAndTaskStatusService.exe is using a huge amount of memory and has over 1000 handles open. It appears to be a utility from Broadcom.

I've killed it with the TaskManager and it seems to restart automatically without causing a problem and uses less memory for awhile.

This is a nuisance, but is better than rebooting the whole system I guess. As somebody else suggested, this sounds like a bad memory leak.

One of those lovely Windows utilities that makes your machine perform like a '286 no matter how powerful the processor and how much memory you have.

Me too.  Dell Precision M4400 running XP SP3.

BcmDeviceAndTaskStatusService.exe is using 35 MB of RAM and 2-4% of CPU... which is inexplicable.

I understand this is somehow related to Dell Control Point Security Manager, which I hardly need, and would like to turn off.  I currently have SmartCard Controller and Contactless SmartCard showing as Enabled, but I can't find any way to diable them.

This program actually slows down my mouse and my entire computer for 1 - 2 seconds every 10 seconds.  It's horrible.  I have to go into task manager and kill the task to fix it.  Unfortunately for me I actually use the security software and my fingerprint reader so I can't uninstall the thing but there has to be a bug in this software.  As soon as I kill the task everything runs fine.  Same issue on a couple other computers (on which we didn't need the fingerprint readers so we uninstalled the software).

Can someone at Dell please look into this.  Killing this process every time my computer boots gets real old.  I tried renaming the file and then I get a notice every 10 - 15 seconds telling me the file is missing (assuming it's being launched from somewhere else).  My computer is unusable when it's running because it makes my mouse stutter.  I'm running the latest security driver pack and software (dated June 2010).
