Dell Studio 1737 Webcam and Fingerprint Reader

I recently bought a refurbished Dell Studio 1737 and its great, except it didn't come with thewebcam or fingerprint software installed and no disk, so although I've

installed the latest drivers they cannot run as there is no software. I've managed to find and download Dell WebCam Manager, but although I have installed the

drivers it says that there is no device detected. I cannot even find the fingerprint reader software, I understand its called Digitalpersona, but I got no such disk or

software with my laptop. Can anybody help? Thanks

Hi GSNYDER70,

I have a Dell Studio 1737 and I have changed the original palmrest without fingerprint reader with another one provided, naturally original from Dell. When I have downloaded the driver pack from Dell website I surprise... there is only the drivers but not the software! The original software provided with the Studio 1737 laptop is Digital Persona from Digital Persona Inc. I have asked a question to Dell helpdesk but no answer received because I'm out of warranty. On the Digital Persona website I have found a software who can work with the Authentec fingerprint reader model AES2810 but you must to pay for it. Searcing on the web I have found another Dell user who have solved the problem: you can download the software Digital Persona version 4.10.3790 from HP website! This is the link:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=it&destPage=softwareDownloadIndex&lc=it&softwareitem=ob-82207-1&tmp_docname=

I have installed it and now have the fingerprint reader perfectly work. If you have any other question please ask me. Best regards.

Go to the Studio 1737 downloads page for drivers. Be sure to first select your operating system in the dropdown box. Look in the 'Security' category for the fingerprint driver. If you need an additional application you may have to buy it from the developer.

There is some webcam software in the Input Device category, but I would advise you to read the article What is the Integrated Webcam and Digital Array Microphone and follow the instructions there. If you do that and still have problems at the bottom of that page there is a link to a troubleshooting wizard named "Problem with the Integrated Web Camera" Wizard ID 297119. which will walk you through all of the steps to configure the camera & mic array. It will show you how to run the Dell Diagnostics tests on the webcam to find out if the hardware has failed and where to get help if it has. It has the details of the several pieces of software to reinstall if the hardware is okay.

Both the webcam and the fingerprint reader were optional purchases which your computer might not have.

When you are on the downloads page, to the left there is a link to the manuals for your model.

For more help with non-audio problems try posting on the Laptop General Hardware Board.  (This is the Laptop Audio Board.)

This is great information, which any one can get, but where is the software that goes with the driver for the fingerprint reader?  The links to DigitalPersona are no longer there.  I purchased my laptop brand new and it did not come with the software to be able to re-install the fingerprint reader.

I am looking for the software that goes with this, not the drivers that operate the hardware.

@ PudgyOne,

At this moment there there is not any software to work with fingerprint reader, only the drivers!

@ PudgyOne,

thanks for your answer. I have downloaded a lot of times this file but I'm sure there is only the driver, not the software to work it. I don't know if this is a Dell polices but I have the same problem for onther pruduct: I have bought a Dell 5530 WWAN card on ebay, I have downloaded the driver on Dell web site but another time there is not the software (Dell Mobile Broadband Manager or the Dell Control Point). I have called the Dell customer service here in Italy (it's ridicolous: I must to pay around 30 Eur for receive assistance via telephone because my product is out of warranty) and he told me if into the service tag there is not the WWAN card from the original configuration there no way to download the software for work it! Thank you Dell.

Hi, I have finally found a solution, into Dell drivers dowload there is not the sotware, only the drivers. I have changed the operating system from Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit and installed the drivers from Dell. For the software I have found the Digital Persona software from HP! This is the link:

h10025.www1.hp.com/.../softwareDownloadIndex

Now the Digital Persona is installed into my laptop and it work great! After over 2 month of search I have finally solved this problem! I have searched into My Dell Dowload but there is not the software because my laptop don't come in origin with the fingerprint reader, I have changed the original palmrest with another one who is equipped! If anyone have a problem similar to mine please contact me. I hope this post can help. Thanks to PudgyOne for the help.

, if you answered the question in this forum, others like me who have the same problem could maybe figure out how to get this working.  Downloading the driver/software from the dell download does not provide any way to access the software. In other words, only the drivers get downloaded.  Where can we get the authentec software to use the fingerprint sensor after we have successfully downloaded the drivers? If the software truly is part of the package, how do we access it?
