Dell Vostro 3700 webcam driver
Greetings,
So I decided to put in an SSD into my Dell Vostro 3700. I then decided to upgrade to Windows 7 64-Bit.
Problem is, my webcam is not detected. Before posting, please read what I have done.
1. I have installed Windows 7 32bit and 64bit about 4 times each.
2. Each time I have installed the intel chipset and other drivers in different orders.
3. I have installed drivers the "correct" way Dell has told me to as per their support page.
4. I have re-installed operating system, applications, drivers and webcam software from DELL factory cd's.
I still have no webcam. Loading it up still says "please plug in device".
Do not give me a canned response to read the DELL support driver installation correct order page. I have done so. Please see #3 above.
Any help on this would be great.

I too loaded my Vostro 3700 with Windows 7 64-bit. I followed Dell's drivers the correct way via Dell's support page. My Device Manager shows no errors yet my webcam doesn't work.
If someone can point us to the webcam driver for this laptop I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
-Gary

The first thing to consider is was a webcam ordered with the system at time of purchase. They don't ship by default, you have to order them. Obviously if you used them before installing Windows 7 then we know the system shipped with a camera.
I also suggest checking in the system BIOS by tapping F2 at boot and selecting the "advancd tab" and making sure that web cam is enabled.
Here is a link to the webcam troubleshooter.

If you are not able to find the webcam central driver, try this link
Please let me know if this helps.

Hmm so you mean the little glass thing with a lense behind it at the top of my camera.. might *not* be a webcam?

I take it from your remark that the camera worked before installing the hard drive.
Was you able to find the Webcam Central software for Win 7 and if so did it help?

keneda76,
Windows 7 is supposed to provide the drivers for the webcam. Windows 7 does not always provide this. On some models, installing the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode works GREAT.
If your computer was upgraded to Windows 7, the drivers need installed in the correct order. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order
There are some things, other members have tried, that got the webcams working. Please look at...

I too have a Vostro 3700 with the same webcam problem. I've chatted with support, and checked the BIOS to see if it is enabled. It does appear to be enabled but it does not show up as connected when in Windows 7. My laptop came with Windows 7 and a webcam, so it should have worked from the beginning. The problem I have with the driver link you sent is that Vostro 3700 is not one of the listed devices that is compatible. Will that be a problem? I just wanted to make sure before I went and tried to install the download.

aftabbabu,
Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system? If yes, did you install the drivers in the correct order? How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order
Windows 7/8 is supposed to provide the webcam drivers for most Dell computers. If you system needs webcam drivers, go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag, then select your operating system. If your system needs webcam drivers, they'll be listed under Input.
Try reading...
Troubleshooting the Dell Webcam and Dell Webcam Central Software
You can try this file, also known as Dell Webcam Central.
Create a new unrestricted user account and try the webcam. Did the webcam work?
If yes, log out and log back in to your account and try the webcam. Did the webcam work?
If no, then the webcam became detached from the motherboard, usually near the webcam
If your computer is under warranty, contact Dell Tech Support

I too have a problem with the webcam on vostro 3700 with 64 bit driver windows 7- all worked fine on 32 bit with the web cam and webcam center software.
when i did fresh instal to 64 bit -webcam is detected under device manager but fails to be detected by software when the webcan app is ran.
under device manager i have this device shown as working ok:-
USB\VID_0C45&PID_6421&REV_0224&MI_00
Anyone got this going on windows7 64 bit ?

I found that my webcam works using:-
mailvu.com/.../TestYourWebCam.html
so the problem must be with the DELL WEBCAMCENTER.. would this be a correct assumption ?
so now i know my webcam is installed and working on my vostro 3700.
I just need to try different webcam software suites / applications and settle for one that works.
I dont see anywhere on the dell download page for a webcam driver.,,.whats that all about ?
I think the webcam driver may be a generic windows 7 one.. can anyone advise of the proper dell supplied driver or where to get a download of it.

www.dell.com/.../DriverDetails
File Name:-
Dell_SX2210-Monitor_Webcam SW RC1.1_ R230103.exe
It instals dell webcam central and you will see:-
It puts a folder called N2X8D IN C-DELL-DRIVERS.
Under device manager it lists the following driver:-
c-windows-system32-drivers-CTCLSFLT.SYS
JOB DONE.
copy and post to other sites forums- this has just about set me off my head- in the 21st century it shouldnt be this hard, it should be like a tin of beans ie says what it is (does) on the can- simple...
Please comment if it works for you also - maybe give others hope.
