Dell XPS M1330 problems with powering up.
I have had my Dell for over 3 years never any major issues. The battery had died a few months ago so I have only been using the AC. The otherday I turned on the computer, started to go on to the internet. A blue screen appeared and the system shut down. I can not even power the computer up at all. I checked the AC adapter and it is working well. What might the problem be? How may I fix this. I can't afford anything right now, I am one of the fine unemployed looking for a job.

kipper - give up - you are not going to get anywere with DELL - Your motherboard has failed and this is causing a short in the power circuit. I have had this happen to both of the 2 XPS 1330's i bought in 2009 - the last one failed 4 weeks ago and i knew it was the "known Fault" that DELL have been getting away with.
Its pointless replacing the board as most spares on the market either will not work or will blow in 3 months
Bad news is you have been screwed by DELL - not interested in their customers

Hi,
Welcome to Dell Community,
Please remove the battery from the computer and press the power button approximately for 10-15 sec, (This releases the static power out of the computer). To isolate the problem further we need to run dell diagnostic tool, now to initiate the same , please press Fn key and press the power button at the same time to turn the computer on and to initiate dell daignostic.
1) if the computer turns on then it should take us to the PSA test page (Daignostic test) please continue with the test.
2) If the daignostic figures out a hardware component failure, it would thrown up an error message. please post the error message so that we can trouble shoot further.
* In case we do not find any error messages and if the test passes ...
To get into the safe mode restart your computer and press F8 at the dell logo.
If the computer didnt turn on at all. please find the next stept below.
* Check the status of the Num Lock, Caps Lock & Scroll lock lights on the front panel of the notebook.
For example, if the 3 lock lights indicate a patter like "ON-Flashing-ON" it could be due to faulty Memory
Thus, the exact lock light codes provides us with the status of any possibe hardware component failure.
If the computer doesnt turns on at all (No LEDs on), then it is quite likely to be a motherboard failure.
Please revet with the status.

Tried all of what you have in your report. Still nothing. If the motherboard has failed where may I get a new one and what is the cost usually? Is there anything else that I may check? How do I know for sure it is the motherboard?

Hi kipper1962,
If the diagnostics indicate that it has passed, it could well be due to motherboard failure. What you could try as well is reseat the memory chips from the memory slot and also try switching on the computer with just one memory in each slot. Also try reseating the hard drive and switch on the computer.
To check the option of replacing motherboard, please check the warranty status of your computer by visting support.dell.com and entering your computer's service tag. (Service tag can be found near the bar code located on the bottom lid)
Kindly let me know of the progress.

Hi kipper1962,
Did you try reseating the memory chips as well as the hard drive, as the problem indicates motherboard failure, to eliminate, please try the steps mentioned in the post above.
Kindly revert for further clarifications.
Thanks and regards

thanks for the info. I am feeling the pain from all of this. And waiting for an answers. Been thinking of buying a new computer and since I have purchase two different types of computers both at the same time, and the plastic frame around the screen, broke right after warranty. And now with the XPS 1330.
