What is reason that this query appears not to have been looked at?

I also have not received the daily digest since 11th September. Is this because the laptop has gone to sleep when digest sent (circa 15:00 UK time)?      Many thanks

The forum underwent an update and some threads/email notifications got lost.

What version of Windows do you have and the model of Dell.

Dell Backup and Recovery is obsolete. Why haven't you uninstalled it and updated to Dell Backup and Recovery 1.7.1.2?

See here for details:

I had bought Premium version of datasafe local backup from Dell (Germany). Paid money for it! July 2014I I think

xps L702x windows 7 Home premium edition

When, how and where should I have seen that I was not about to use the recommended version of backup

I am not happy!!

Why did someone not reply to my forum query of 4th August?

Is there any suitable printable info on the recommended backup which I can read not online

Many thanks

Highly confused after looking at video mentioned in earlier replies yesterday. Unfortunately it is not easy to stop video to write things down so I can quote them here.  I had bought Premium version of dell datasafe local backup which appears to have been renamed. Is there no documentation that is printable so I can follow it and tick things off.  In Hidden icons I have Dell Datasafe  Local Backup. Although I bought this, I think, in July 2014 I have not actually used it yet  I would really like to see printout of video. I have also seen, and read some, of a large number of problems within 'forums' and 'datasafe...'

It does not give me much confidence to get it right and for it actually to work.

I may take a few weeks to resolve this problem, but please send reply as and when avaialble

With thanks

1.why was I able to purchase premium dell datasafe local backup in July 2014 if this is not correct version. When I got PC in 2012 it had minimal version of datasafe already installed but explanation of what extra I would get if I paid the money ( Cologne Germany)

2. When and how should I have been told about present official version I have 9.4.61 of datasafe local backup.

I have asked Dell-David F about it, hopefully he will reply to this thread and advise.

3. Is there a file which I can PRINT similar to the video mentioned by Philip yip.

This video is more confusing!  Can I have simple steps which I can print off and tick off as O do them

Is there any printable documentation of latest backup which I can read offline.

I don't have the steps printed off in a written guide as I have no means to record screenshots outwith Windows (i.e. at the Dell BIOS) and images would hence be blurry.

The Dell Documentation is here but it is for version 1.3:

You did not answer question 1 above.

Dell datasafe local backup 9.4.61 and support software & D D Online 21.19634 were on this laptop when I got it delivered. I purchased premium edition.

Would you please give me the 3 or 4 or 5 commands which I have to issue to get correct backup

Any chance of up to date documentation? preferably printed

Still not happy, but know it is not your fault! Sorry!

Many thanks

Firstly I do not work for Dell, I have asked Dell David F to reply to this thread who works with the Dell Backup and Recovery team.

My personal advice would be to uninstall any Dell DataSafe and then to install Dell Backup and Recovery as instructed here as you have seen there were numerous problems with Dell DataSafe which is one of the reasons its been completely superseded by Dell Backup and Recovery:

  • So Start > Computer > uninstall or change a program.
  • Look in the list and uninstall all Dell DataSafe programs.
  • Reboot.
  • Install Dell Backup and Recovery 1.7.1.2 from here:

http://www.dellbackupandrecovery.com/en-us/Index2.html

  • Reboot when prompted.

You should now have the latest version. I would then create the Recovery USB of the factory settings:

So essentially

  • Insert a 16-32 GB USB flash drive
  • go to Start > Dell > Dell Backup and Recovery and launch the program.
  • Select Bootable Backup
  • Select Factory Backup
  • Select USB Flash Drive
  • Select Continue

This instructions are for the basic backup of the factory settings which is usually the most important.

The problem is about the purchase. I assume that your license for Dell DataSafe Premium will automatically qualify you for Dell Backup and Recovery Premium but personally haven't tested, it may be a paid upgrade (again) but I'm not sure. I haven't tried the Premium version of either Dell DataSafe Local Backup or Dell Backup and Recovery. As mentioned however Dell DataSafe is obsolete and should be replaced by Dell Backup and Recovery. Hopefully Dell David F replies regarding the upgrade and if its free or if there's a price.

Mr. Carson,

We are constantly evolving our software offerings to provide our customers with the most current technology and user experience. As such, our strategy for backup and recovery has changes several times over the years.  Dell DataSafe Local Backup was the current offering at the time you purchased your system.  We have sinced moved to a different offering simpley called "Dell Backup and Recovery", which is what we currently ship on all client systems.

You can continue using DataSafe, and may want to since you paid for the premium version.  Even though we have ceased development activities on this product and are no longer shipping it, customers who have it are still able to upgrade to the premium version if they wish, and it will be fully functional.

If you find that you are unhappy with DataSafe product after using it (which I understand you have not done yet), I recommend you follow the steps in this thread to uninstall it and install our current product available at www.dellbackupandrecovery.com.

There are basic (free) and premium (paid) versions Dell Backup and Recovery as well.  Unfortunately, the fact that you have the premium version of DataSafe does not entitle you to the premium version of Dell Backup and Recovery. They are two completely different products.

If you feel that you are due a refund on your premium purchase of Datasafe, you will have to contact Dell Technical Support directly to discuss the matter.

Thank You,

fao: DELL-DAVID F

Many thanks

However would you not be able tp let users  know about the new version of backup & recovery by having a general news file on web which users could view....... or anything appropriate. I only found out about this new by accident!

Also there should be printable documentation on all backups for which you answer queries when things go wrong.  I currently have another forum query asking for this for D B & R

This documentation request would also apply to 'My Dell' which is not automatically sent  with the new PC

Thanks again
