Dell latitude E6510 Display Problem

No display on laptop screen.  I can hear startup working through the audio speaker, I hook up external monitor and system is loaded and computer works, just no display on laptop display.  I shine a bright light on laptop display and can see a very dim outline of windows screen.  The display on laptop is a HD Led display.  Any thoughts on troubleshooting this issue?

Hello,

Honestly, I think you've pretty much hit most of the troubleshooting steps I would recommend.  It seems to be the LCD itself and not the video card, etc.   Mostly likely the backlight in the LED I would think.  The video is getting to the screen so it's not the data cable.  It could be the power connection lead to the LCD but I'm not sure that is probable.

Is the system still under warranty?  If so you may want to contact Dell Tech Support and find out about getting it replaced.  If not, you can look into replacing it yourself.  Here is the link to the online support pages for the E6510.  Information on the display panel starts around page 24.  You can use that information to check the power and data leads into the screen in case those are lose. That would be a (relatively) easy fix.

Let me know if this helps, or if you have other questions and I'll see what I can do to help.

Todd
