Port Replicator:
This is a pass through docking device that only provides additional ports.
When the system is docked, it does not provide docking status recognition.
Advanced Port Replicator.
This is a Port Replicator with an Ethernet built in.
When the system is docked, it does provide docking status recognition.
Docking Station: (C/Port, C/Dock, D/Dock)
This provides additional ports, has built in Ethernet or scsi controllers, and also allows you
to install expansion PCI cards.
When the system is docked, it does provide docking status recognition.

Note:
The Inspiron 8200 will only work with the Inspiron APR.

You cannot purchase the I-8200 APR on the Dell Web page any more.
If you are located in the U.S, call Dell Spare Parts to see if they have one available.
If they don't, then search google.com for "Inspiron 8200 Advanced Port Replicator" and you should find some for sale.
