Difference between an Inspiron and a Vostro

Hi!

Right now, I own an inspiron 2200 for 3 years now (with celeron processor) - I feel limitted with that one as it is quite slow

I am planning on getting a new laptop and hesitate between an Inspiron 1525 (pentium dual 1.86 GHz) and a Vostro 1000 (with Athlon dual core 1.96 GHz)

What's the basic difference between those two?

Which one would you recommend?

This will be my only computer (no desk top) for a small office work - I use frontpage, windows movie maker, skype with webcam, etc - no complex graphic design - but do need much higher speed than the Inspiron I own now.

For instance, right now, my laptop crashes when trying to use skype + logitech webcam due to CPU usage.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

They're both basic, budget machines.  One is Intel-based (the Inspiron) and the other, AMD-based.

Either will serve basic needs just fine, but if you need it to run a business, I'd nix either and get a Latitude with US-based support.

What is your budget?

If you find a laptop with a good pipeline enabling fast data transfer you can get several different laptops to suit your needs. If you get away from the Celeron processor you will also gravely speed up your system so your getting a huge upgrade simply because your are purchasing a full fledged processor rather than that short lived budged chip.

Memory addressing may be your problem now. Celeron chips were quite limited and when you go into the higher echelons of memory addressing (simply because of what you run and how much memory it needs) it does have a tendency to be a sub par performer. Either one you suggested doesn't have that issue especially if you run Vista home premium or Ultimate to take advantage of the high memory management of these versions.

If choosing between the two. I would choose the 1525 for it has the intel chip and has more cache memory. It also has a better option for the lcd screen. I dont see that 1.86 intel chip offered on the 1525 anymore were you getting that computer from the outlet. I only see 2.0 ghz and above for the 1525.
