Hello everyone,

recently i bought a new displayport to hdmi adapter from dell and everything worked like a charm. so finally i can definitely state that M4500 does support sound from displayport.

dear manny002,

first of all i would check the drivers (delete the existing ones and try the ones from nvidia, if that doesnt work, delete them and try the ones from dell).

Bear in mind that some HDMI equipments have features like auto-recognition that sends a signal to your laptop as soon as you plug your wire (in my Panasonic TV i had to enable it)

if the problem insist try another adapter

is there any way to check whether my display port is enabled with audio by Dell?

I don't know of a way to check, but it should be able to transmit audio audio; however the correct configuration may be a mystery. See the How to Enable HDMI Audio FAQ. There are general tips from users plus model-specific tips. There is one from an M4400 owner which also has the DisplayPort so I would think it should also work on the M4500. But the configuration might be different.

Thanks for the reply!

i already read the FAQ you suggest and also spotted the M4400 owner but with no results.

When i open the mixer or search through the control panel/sound i cannot find any devices other than speaker/headphones (IDT high definition audio codec) and independent (R.T.C.) headphones (IDT high definition audio codec). Is the second option the correct device for my display port?

What you can find in the Audio properties is determined by the driver. I compared your model to an M4400 and your driver is different, however the M4400 uses a driver that is compatible with the M4500. You can install its driver after you delete all of your driver files (section 2 of the Audio Driver FAQ) if you want to have the audio properties that "might" be the same as PAS-Chris descibed in the HDMI Audio FAQ. I cannot guarantee that is the result you will get. It is IDT driver R267814  .

Another factor is the nVidia driver. As you know from reading the FAQ it is the video driver that contains the HDMI audio. I did not a video driver that is common to both the M4400 and 4500, so that alone makes the comparison apples to oranges.

Is the second option the correct device for my display port?

I know even less about the DisplayPort than I do about the regular HDMI port (my computer does not have one), but nothing I have seen suggests that you should select Independent headphones. The correct one is probably the normal IDT speakers/headphones.

Hi,

I've maybe a solution for you. I've a M4500 and the first time I connected my displayport to hdmi adaptor, the audio was not working. The video was ok but the sound still comes from my laptop.

I look up in the audio properties and found something.  you need to right-click on the sound icon and select the reading option. You normaly have a list of all the peripheric (your TV, your hearphones and your normal audio output). You need to select the TV output as default output.

So when you will connect your hdmi cable, the audio will work automatically !

Hope this will help !

bye
